Popular Disney World Resort Area Closing Effective August 10
Every Disney resort has a spot the regulars quietly claim as theirs.
At Disney’s BoardWalk, that spot is the Village Green.
It is not a headliner. It never shows up in marketing. Plenty of guests walk right past without clocking what it is. But for people who stay here again and again, that patch of grass earns its keep.
Kids run around on it while parents finally sit down. Guests use it to reset mid-park-day, which matters a lot at a resort where you can walk to EPCOT and boat to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Families lay out a picnic. And after dark, it becomes Movie Under the Stars, the kind of low-key resort offering people remember far longer than they expect.
It is about to be off limits.
The Disney World Closure Window
The Village Green courtyard is closed from August 10 through September 4, 2026.
Four weeks, landing right in the middle of late summer travel and the opening of Halloween season at Magic Kingdom.
Guests at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn and Disney’s BoardWalk Villas will not have access to the courtyard during that stretch.
The Activities Are Not Canceled
Good news for anyone panicking about the programming.
Recreation normally held on the Village Green is being relocated elsewhere on the resort. That covers Movie Under the Stars, yoga, crafts, and more.
Nothing is being scrapped. It is just moving. Check with the front desk or Guest Services when you arrive to find out where each activity landed.
Ask specifically about Movie Under the Stars, since the setting is a big part of what makes it work.
There Is More Coming
The Village Green is part of a larger project.
Refurbishment work is happening in select areas of Disney’s BoardWalk Inn and Disney’s BoardWalk Villas through late 2026.
A separate closure is already scheduled for next year. January 11, 2027, through April 2027, the Luna Park Pool, the Luna Park Crazy Play Area, and Leaping Horse Libations all go down for routine maintenance.
One bright spot there. The pools at both the Villas and the Inn stay open, so nobody is stuck without swimming.
What Still Works at Disney’s BoardWalk
If your trip falls within the closure, the rest of the resort is operating normally.
Disney’s BoardWalk is a quarter-mile promenade in the EPCOT Resort Area, styled after turn-of-the-century boardwalks in coastal cities like Coney Island and Atlantic City. Hours are 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Variety act performers work the BoardWalk, and Atlantic Dance Hall handles the evening crowd.
Dining spans multi-course dinners to on-the-go sweets, which is genuinely one of the best reasons to stay here.
Recreation includes classic arcade games and Surrey bikes built for four. If the Village Green was your family time plan, a Surrey ride is a reasonable swap that keeps everyone together.
And the location is untouched. Short walk to EPCOT, quick boat to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
A Disney World Parking Warning
Worth knowing, especially if you are driving in from off property.
Parking at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn is limited, and Disney strongly recommends resort hotel guests use the complimentary transportation options instead. This is a reminder that guests can no longer use the buses at Disney Springs to reach the resorts without proper documentation.
Self-parking may not be available for guests arriving in their own vehicles. Valet may be the only choice. Anyone visiting EPCOT should use the EPCOT Guest Parking Lot.
Do You Need to Rebook Your Disney World Trip
For most people, no.
One courtyard down for four weeks is not a reason to move a reservation, especially with the programming relocating rather than disappearing. Dining, promenade, entertainment, and the walk to two parks are all unaffected.
But if the Village Green is specifically why you pick this resort, and some guests do, look at dates after September 4.
Families with small kids will feel it most. That open grass is genuinely valuable when you need somewhere for children to burn off energy that isn’t a pool or a hotel room.
The Dates
August 10 to September 4, 2026: Village Green.
January 11 to April 2027: Luna Park Pool, Luna Park Crazy Play Area, Leaping Horse Libations.

BoardWalk stay booked in any of those windows? Worth a quick check on what will actually be open when you get there.
