Disney’s Animal Kingdom has long been a favorite among guests for its rich theming and unique attractions that celebrate the wonders of nature and adventure.
From the breathtaking Kilimanjaro Safaris to the immersive world of Pandora – The World of Avatar, there’s no shortage of memorable experiences. However, one area has remained the subject of intense speculation: DinoLand U.S.A.
Since its debut, DinoLand U.S.A. has been a quirky addition to Animal Kingdom, with its roadside-carnival aesthetic and a standout headliner in the form of the dark ride, DINOSAUR. Yet, after years of dwindling popularity and the closure of Primeval Whirl, fans have wondered what the future holds for this prehistoric-themed land. Now, the rumor mill has gone into overdrive as reports suggest that the remaining parts of DinoLand U.S.A. will close by early 2026.
Earlier this month, Disney fans were met with the news that portions of the land, including TriceraTop Spin and Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama, had officially closed, with construction walls already taking over. What remains are the beloved DINOSAUR attraction, The Boneyard playground, and Restaurantosaurus. According to reports, these areas will also close in January 2026 as part of a phased transformation into the highly anticipated Tropical Americas land.
This new area, which was previewed at D23, will feature attractions based on popular films like Encanto (2021) and a brand-new Indiana Jones experience. Fans are particularly intrigued by the Indiana Jones retheme, as DINOSAUR’s ride track is nearly identical to the one used for Indiana Jones Adventure at Disneyland.
While this ambitious overhaul is undoubtedly exciting, many Disney enthusiasts are grappling with the bittersweet reality that DINOSAUR could soon become extinct. The attraction’s thrilling storyline and heart-pounding finale have made it a fan favorite since the park’s opening. However, Disney is no stranger to reimagining attractions to keep things fresh and relevant.
With a targeted opening date of 2027 for the new land, 2026 could mark the end of an era for Disney’s prehistoric adventure. If the rumors are true, it’s only a matter of time before guests bid farewell to this fan-favorite ride. Whether you’re nostalgic for the time-traveling escapade or excited for what’s next, 2026 is shaping up to be a pivotal year for Animal Kingdom.
