Next ‘Jurassic Park’ Installment Will Also Adapt 1990 Novel
Universal has revisited the original Jurassic Park (1993) in many different ways over the years, whether through games like Jurassic World Evolution 2 (2021) or Universal Studios’ theme park attractions. However, most of those projects have served as celebrations of Steven Spielberg’s blockbuster classic rather than as expansions of the world onscreen.

Of course, we now have six sequels, with the latest being last year’s Jurassic World Rebirth (2025), but the only two films to revisit Isla Nublar are Jurassic World (2015) and its sequel Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018). The 2015 film quite literally paves over the original park, relegating it to a briefly-visited “Restricted Zone”, while the 2018 sequel blows up the island before we get to see any of the areas only hinted at in the 1993 film.
But that’s where Jurassic Park: Survival (TBA) is taking a different approach.

Developed by Saber Interactive, the single-player, first-person action-adventure video game is set the day after the events of Jurassic Park (1993) and follows Dr. Maya Joshi (Payal Mistry), an InGen scientist who was unable to evacuate the island.
The official synopsis reads: “Return to Isla Nublar the day after the events of the beloved 1993 Jurassic Park film in an original adventure 65 million years in the making. Survive thrilling first-person action as InGen scientist Dr. Maya Joshi… and discover a never-before-told story.”
The premise is simple, but the setting is doing more of the heavy lifting here. In a behind-the-scenes featurette released last summer, developers and key collaborators from Saber and Universal confirmed that the game will include areas of the park only hinted at in the film. One of the clearest examples is a hotel complex that existed somewhere offscreen.

But that location isn’t new to the franchise overall. It comes from Michael Crichton’s original novel, which fleshed out the park as a much larger and more fully developed resort than what ended up in Spielberg’s film.
Jurassic Park (1993) focused on a smaller number of locations, but the book made it clear the island had more infrastructure, including places for guests to stay like the Safari Lodge.
What Jurassic Park: Survival is doing is bringing some of that detail back into the current canon without retelling the same story. Instead of revisiting familiar scenes, it uses the same timeframe to expand the world, showing parts of Isla Nublar that were always part of the concept but never made it into the film.
The game was first revealed with a cinematic trailer at The Game Awards in 2023:
Jurassic Park: Survival (TBA) is in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. There is no release date yet. You can watch the full behind-the-scenes video below:
