New Sequel to ‘The Last Jedi’ Releasing Imminently From ‘Star Wars’
Lucasfilm’s theatrical future may still be taking shape, but the next Star Wars story is just around the corner. Fans won’t have to wait long to hear the return of Rey Skywalker, Finn, and BB-8 when “Star Wars: The Jaws of Jakku” debuts on Audible on October 9, 2025.
The new prequel-sequel audio drama bridges the gap between Star Wars: Episode VIII–The Last Jedi (2017) and Star Wars: Episode IX–The Rise of Skywalker (2019), revisiting Rey’s home planet for a story that could reframe how audiences view the sequel trilogy’s finale. Written by Cavan Scott and narrated by Helen Sadler, the drama finds Rey confronting her past as she continues her Jedi journey.
“Following the events of The Last Jedi, Rey struggles to let go of her lonely childhood on the desert planet of Jakku. Hoping to have a breakthrough in her Jedi training, she returns to her home world with Finn and BB-8 in tow,” the official Audible synopsis reads. “When they meet a young girl on a dangerous mission to save her family, they travel through pitch-black tunnels beneath the sand where they encounter scurrying gnaw-jaws, a haunting terror from the past, and maybe—just maybe—hope for them all.”
While Lucasfilm continues to develop major theatrical releases—including Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s Rey Skywalker movie, James Mangold’s origin-of-the-Force epic, and Shawn Levy’s newly titled Star Wars: Starfighter (2027), this new story gives fans something more immediate to experience.
Because “The Jaws of Jakku” takes place before The Rise of Skywalker, it could reshape some long-debated storylines, much like previous tie-in projects that expanded on the sequel era through comics and animated series such as The Bad Batch.
Rey’s prominence in the franchise continues to spark conversation about Star Wars’ future direction. “Rey is the most valuable cinematic asset, in some ways maybe the only one Star Wars has right now,” an insider told The Hollywood Reporter. With “The Jaws of Jakku” arriving on October 9, fans will soon return to the sands of Jakku for a story that promises both new mysteries and emotional closure.
