Confirmed: Disney Forever Changes the Way Guests Enter Animal Kingdom Theme Park
What began as a guest-reported procedural shift more than a week ago has now been officially confirmed by Disney cast members: the way guests experience the morning at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park has permanently changed.
The Confirmation That Made It Official
WDWNT reported on July 23 that Disney cast members at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park had confirmed the updated rope drop procedures are not temporary. The change went into effect without any public announcement from Walt Disney World Resort, and the Central Florida vacation destination still hasn’t issued one — but the cast member confirmation settles the question of whether this is a lasting shift or a brief experiment.
Under the previous system, off-property guests arriving before the park’s official 8:00 a.m. opening were held in the Oasis — the lush, jungle-dense passageway between the park entrance and Discovery Island — until the gates officially opened. Meanwhile, Disney Resort hotel guests with Early Theme Park Entry access were welcomed onto Discovery Island at 7:30 a.m. and given a 30-minute head start on the rest of the crowd.
What Happens Now
The new procedure moves off-property guests forward. Instead of waiting in the Oasis, those guests are now brought onto Discovery Island during the 30-minute early entry window alongside hotel guests — giving them more room to breathe before the crowd surges and the chance to take Disney PhotoPass photos in front of the Tree of Life. Discovery Island shops still don’t open until 8:00 a.m., but the physical access to the area is now extended.
Disney Resort hotel guests using Early Theme Park Entry check in with cast members at three designated access points, depending on where they want to go first. Guests heading to Pandora — The World of Avatar check in near Island Mercantile. Those bound for Asia and Expedition Everest check in in front of Zootopia: Better Zoogether! near that bridge. The former DinoLand U.S.A. bridge serves as the third entry point. Africa is accessible through both Asia and Pandora. One ticket, MagicBand, or smart device per group is scanned to verify on-property hotel status.
Subject to Future Change
While cast members have confirmed the new procedures are permanent, “permanent” at Walt Disney World Resort always comes with an asterisk. Rope drop protocols across all four Central Florida theme parks evolve as guest behavior changes and new attractions open. Pueblo Esperanza — the new land replacing DinoLand U.S.A. with three new attractions — is expected to debut in 2027, and that opening alone could reshape morning crowd patterns at Disney’s Animal Kingdom significantly.
