As Walt Disney World prepares to open TRON Lightcycle / Run next month, new final touches make their way to the Magic Kingdom’s gateway to the Grid.
Fans have waited patiently to enter the Grid since Walt Disney Imagineering announced a second theme park “gateway” opening at the Walt Disney World Resort. Unlike the TRON Lightcycle Power Run coaster already opened at Shanghai Disneyland in 2016, Walt Disney World’s coaster would open alongside the original Space Mountain attraction in Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom.

Moreover, Disney considers the new thrill ride, inspired by the 1982 Disney sci-fi film TRON and its 2010 sequel TRON: Legacy, one of their fastest coasters yet. Certainly, the attraction offers Guests the unique opportunity to enter the digitized world of Kevin Flynn and compete in some of the computer arena’s gladiator-style games, like the Lightcycle race.
In the attraction, Guests board the Lightcycle vehicles for the “user” side, Team Blue, facing off against the Grid’s nefarious Team Orange. Throughout the ride, special effects such as lighting, music, and projection mapping simulate the experience of competing in the digital games alongside racers from the films.

Now, construction is all but complete, with Cast Members and Annual Passholders experiencing the ride early via exclusive previews. While there have been a few complaints, mostly due to ride vehicle accessibility and the length of the ride, many fans are enjoying the opportunity to experience the world of TRON. Recently, Disney revealed Cast Member costumes, a new pop-up storefront with customizable merchandise, and the post-show scene, which includes a photo-op sponsored by Enterprise.
