‘Jurassic Park’ Update Will Change Original 1993 Film Forever
When Jurassic Park hit theaters in 1993, it didn’t just leave audiences satisfied with its startlingly realistic dinosaurs (both practical and digital)—it left them imagining everything they didn’t get to see. The original film revolves around a private tour of InGen’s theme park one year before it’s due to open, but while viewers get front-row seats through the characters’ eyes, there’s plenty that the film doesn’t show us.
There are hints of a much larger story throughout the film. DNA embryos and maps reference dinosaurs (and with them, their enclosures) that never appear, while several other InGen employees are teased in the background. There are also attractions revealed in blink-and-you’ll-miss-them background images during the infamous dinner scene.
Audiences have always sensed that Isla Nublar is very much alive beyond the camera, and soon, “Jurassic Park: Survival” will begin to fill that space.

The upcoming first-person action-adventure video game takes place immediately after the events of the film. Instead of playing as one of the familiar characters, players step into the shoes of Dr. Maya Joshi, an InGen scientist who didn’t make it off the island. The dinosaurs are free, the park is overrun, and Maya has to survive long enough to escape while uncovering parts of Jurassic Park that audiences never got to see on the big screen.
The same goes for the dinosaurs. The 1993 film only features a handful, including Velociraptor, Dilophosaurus, and T.Rex, but the game can introduce the species mentioned but never shown on-screen. It’s not retconning the movie—it’s expanding it.
We’ll also likely meet other everyday InGen workers who kept the park running before everything collapsed. Security teams. Researchers. Engineers. Characters who might have had their own plans while John Hammond’s guests were fighting for their lives.

“Return to Isla Nublar the day after the events of the beloved 1993 Jurassic Park film in an original adventure 65 million years in the making,” the official synopsis reads.
“Survive thrilling first-person action as InGen scientist Dr. Maya Joshi, who was unable to evacuate Isla Nublar, in this single-player action-adventure game and discover a never-before-told story. There’s no release date for the game, but it’s rumored to be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC sometime next year or in 2027.
