New ‘James Bond’ Reboot Unveils Youngest 007 Ever Seen
Amazon MGM Studios is moving ahead with a full James Bond reboot, with Dune (2021) director Denis Villeneuve attached to direct and Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight writing the screenplay.
The project is in early development, and no actor has been confirmed to take on the role of 007. The reboot follows Daniel Craig’s final performance in No Time to Die (2021), which closed out the Eon Productions era spanning 25 films and six different Bonds: Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Craig.

The Next James Bond Will Be the Youngest
But while the film remains in development, a younger version of the character is already on screen elsewhere.
Irish actor Patrick Gibson portrays James Bond in IO Interactive’s 007 First Light (2026), an upcoming third-person action-adventure video game set during the character’s MI6 training years as he sets out to become a Double-O agent.
Now, the developer has shared a new “Rules of Spycraft” video, which highlights gameplay mechanics including stealth infiltration, gadget usage, silent takedowns, and intelligence collection. The video also gives us the first proper look at Gibson’s Bond in training, where he can be seen in the MI6 academy sporting a buzzcut. Watch it below:

007 First Light Full Cast and More
Gibson’s Bond, who is confirmed to be just 26 years old, is the youngest depiction of the character ever seen on screen. The supporting cast includes Priyanga Burford as M, Kiera Lester as Miss Moneypenny, Alastair Mackenzie as Q, Lennie James as Greenway, Gemma Chan as Selina Tan, and Lenny Kravitz as Bawma.
The official synopsis reads: “Follow James Bond as a young, resourceful, and sometimes reckless recruit in MI6’s training program, and discover an origin story of the world’s most famous spy.”
007 First Light will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows on May 27, 2026. Its Nintendo Switch 2 has been pushed back to an unspecified date later this year.
There’s no release date for the untitled film reboot.
