The Wizarding World Expands: New ‘Harry Potter’ Books Coming This August

Even more Harry Potter books are coming later this year, despite ongoing controversies surrounding author J.K. Rowling.

Since its debut in 1997, the Harry Potter series has had a profound cultural impact, captivating readers worldwide with its magical storytelling, relatable characters, and timeless themes of friendship and courage.

The saga concluded in 2007 with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, but the books continue to resonate, sparking conversations about identity, prejudice, and resilience. The Harry Potter legacy extends far beyond the page, influencing films, theme parks, and an ongoing global fan community.

However, the series hasn’t been without its challenges in recent years. Rowling’s controversial remarks on gender identity, particularly her alignment with transphobic viewpoints, have led to heated debates among activists and fans.

For the latter, a major disappointment has been the fact that Rowling’s views seem to conflict with the messages preached within her books.

These controversies have sparked calls for boycotts of new Harry Potter-related projects, including the Hogwarts Legacy video game and the upcoming Harry Potter series reboot on HBO. The latter will see a complete recasting of iconic roles, replacing Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, and adapting each book into a season-long series.

Despite this backlash, the Harry Potter franchise remains a cultural force, continuing to evolve and attract new projects.

In an unexpected move, Bloomsbury has announced a brand-new addition to the Harry Potter universe: Pocket Potters: Little Guides to the Harry Potter Stories.

Bloomsbury is excited to launch a brand new series of collectable mini-guides that children, new readers and superfans alike will be clamouring to get their hands on.

These illustrated mini-guides are designed as accessible companions to the original seven books, offering younger readers and collectors alike the chance to dive into the magic once more. While these books won’t feature new plots or adventures, they will explore key moments from the stories with vibrant illustrations, providing fresh insights into beloved characters like Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger.

The first three books (which focus on the aforementioned Golden Trio) are scheduled for release on August 26, 2025, with each available in 25 languages. Additional books will be released in 2026, including a guide dedicated to the enigmatic Albus Dumbledore.

Despite the controversies surrounding Rowling, it’s clear that the magical world she created continues to thrive, inviting both old and new fans to explore its pages—and its characters—in new ways.
