New Aerial Shot Reveals Massive Monsters, Inc. Attraction Show Building at Disney World
A thrilling new chapter is beginning at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, where Monstropolis—straight from Pixar’s Monsters, Inc.—is coming to life in spectacular fashion. The Grand Avenue area, once home to fan favorites like Muppet*Vision 3D, is making way for a land inspired by the laughter-powered world of Mike and Sulley.
Guests will step into a city run on giggles as Disney brings the Monsters, Inc. factory to theme park life. “Picking up after the events of Pixar’s beloved film, humans have now been invited to visit the world of Monsters, Inc.—and the monsters need laughter to power the city and keep it running smoothly,” the Disney Parks Blog previously revealed. The centerpiece? A game-changing E-ticket attraction that introduces Disney’s first-ever suspended coaster—and its first vertical-launch lift.
This innovative “door ride” brings a thrill-packed journey through the iconic door vault. “Remember in the movie how those claws grab the doors and hoist them up into the air to take them away? We’re doing that, too,” Disney Experiences chairman Josh D’Amaro shared at the D23 Expo. “And you’re going along for the ride.”
Disney offered a sneak peek during SXSW 2025, describing the attraction’s vertical lift and new animatic: “Showing off a new animatic of the attraction, guests will board the vehicle before being hoisted into the air (just like in the movie!) to zoom into the door vault.”
Bioreconstruct (@bioreconstruct), known for sharing aerial updates of Walt Disney World, recently posted new images showing the clearing of land for the show building. Situated near the service road of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, this structure is poised to become one of the park’s defining features.
According to WDWMagic, “This location will be the site of the coaster’s massive show building—expected to be roughly 103,000 square feet based on recent data from the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District’s GIS mapping tools.” That places it second in size only to EPCOT’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind building, which spans a massive 197,000 square feet.
Interestingly, the new showbuilding may even be visible from Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, but with Disney Imagineering at the helm, transitions between themed lands are expected to be carefully crafted.
And as Monstropolis prepares to rise, other major transformations are reshaping the resort. At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, DinoLand U.S.A. is set to evolve into the vibrant, Tropical Americas-inspired Pueblo Esperanza. The new land, opening in 2027, will bring stories from Encanto and Indiana Jones to life, with only the DINOSAUR attraction still hanging on for now.
Meanwhile, over at Magic Kingdom Park, the largest expansion in its nearly 54-year history is underway. Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America closed on July 7 to make way for the Cars-themed Piston Peak National Park. Landscaping has also begun for the mysterious “Beyond Big Thunder” area, set to celebrate Disney’s beloved Villains. Specific attractions and characters remain under wraps for now.
EPCOT is also in the midst of refinement. The park’s reimagining reached a milestone with the opening of World Celebration, while World Discovery just welcomed Test Track 3.0—another step forward for the innovative attraction.
With new experiences arriving across all four parks, Walt Disney World is in the middle of a transformation unlike any before. And Monstropolis is leading the charge.
