If you’ve ever wanted to step into the city that runs on laughs, your chance is getting closer. Walt Disney World is moving ahead with Monstropolis, the Monsters, Inc. land coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2027, and there’s plenty to look forward to beyond the construction walls.

The land is taking over the space once known as the Grand Avenue, and Disney isn’t stopping at one big ride. The area is being designed as a place to explore, with several spots inspired by the Pixar films where Mike Wazowski, Sulley, and their coworkers live and work.
For many guests, the first stop will likely be the Glob Theater. The venue will present Welcome to Monstropolis, and concept art shared so far shows a building that leans fully into the franchise’s sense of humor. Expect a monster-themed exterior, a lobby styled like a classic theater, and movie posters with monstrous spins, along with odd decorative touches that help the space feel lived in.
Hungry? Harryhausen’s is on the way. Disney has confirmed that the sushi restaurant seen in the original Monsters, Inc. will be recreated in the land, so fans can finally grab a bite at one of the film’s most memorable locations. Keep an eye out for laugh canisters and similar details around the area, too, which point to a Monstropolis that now powers itself with laughter instead of screams.

The attraction many fans are most curious about is the door vault coaster. Based on the movie’s high-energy chase through a warehouse packed with doors, it’s set to be Disney’s first suspended roller coaster, with ride vehicles hanging below the track. The building that will house it has seen significant progress.
That progress was recently captured by aerial photographer Bioreconstruct, who posted:

If you’re planning a 2027 visit, keep one thing in mind. Disney is opening Monstropolis in phases, so some experiences will be ready in 2027 while the coaster is still being finished. Depending on when you go, you may be able to explore parts of the land before its headline attraction opens.
We’ll keep tracking new developments as Disney works toward the debut. For now, these aerial views offer a helpful glimpse of how the land is coming together compared to the original concept art.
