Disney World Officially Gives the Muppets a New Theme Park Home

Walt Disney World Resort is about to give the Muppets a fresh and exciting new home at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and the Central Florida Disney park dropped shared some new information about the upcoming attraction.

Last fall, Walt Disney World Resort revealed that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith will be rethemed to feature the Muppets. Fans of Jim Henson’s creations can look forward to seeing their favorite characters in an all-new setting, with the new Muppets Mayhem version of the ride set to debut in 2026.

This update came alongside the announcement that Muppet*Vision 3D and the surrounding Muppets Courtyard area would close to make way for a Monsters, Inc. (2001)-themed land. To keep the Muppets alive in the park, Disney decided to bring them to Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster. The attraction will continue to operate with its Aerosmith theme through the end of 2025.

Although Walt Disney World Resort has not yet revealed the exact closing date for the current Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster theme or the official reopening date for its Muppets retheme, it recently shared some exciting details about what to expect. On June 18, Disney shared that the upcoming Muppets-themed Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will be a “fast-paced, music-filled adventure with rock tune remixes, backstage chaos and plenty of laughs.” From @DrewDisneyDude on X (formerly known as Twitter):

Walt Disney World says Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets will be a “fast-paced, music-filled adventure with rock tune remixes, backstage chaos and plenty of laughs” when the attraction opens in 2026 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Walt Disney World Resort has not announced the specific date for the attraction’s grand reopening, or the premiere of the Monsters, Inc. land that’s replacing Muppets Courtyard and Muppet*Vision 3D. More information is expected to come later this year as Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith’s closing date gets closer.

  1. I think that Rock n’ Roller Coaster with the Muppets is an awesome idea for the Sunset Boulevard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Because I love The Muppets and It’s awesome! I think That Disney Did a good job replacing Aerosmith with the Muppets It’s awesome for next Year!

  2. To be honest, I don’t think putting the muppets on a roller coaster would be a good idea. Everyone loves the muppets, and one of the things the muppets and other Jim Henson projects have told us – is that everyone is different. Everyone might not have accessibility to ride a roller coaster due to injuries, medical conditions, the lot. Muppet Vision was just a simple seating attraction, so they’re was no problem. Hopefully Disney finds out another way to make the muppets accessible at themeparks and not just a licence they hold.

  3. I think the Aerosmith rollercoaster is good the way it is, and I don’t think that making a rollercoaster for The Muppets, I’ll have to agree with the second comment about people being able to ride it

  4. I believe a Muppet themed R&R coaster is a mild enough retheme to freshen up the ride and part company with Aerosmith. Where I do think Disney missed an opportunity is to have moved Muppet 3D vision next to the Rollercoaster in that Cars wasted space next to ride. That could have been a cheap fix to freshen things up, create a little ‘Muppetland’ and satisfy the OGs by keeping nostalgia of the Muppet history alive. Do better Disney.

  5. I couldnt care less about the roller coaster, but I do think it’s a terrible tragedy that they’ve shut down Muppets 3D. It was already replaced in Anaheim with a inferior film featuring Mickey and the gang, who are already well-represented in the parks. Also, as one of Jim Henson’s last Muppet projects, it deserves to be preserved.
