Disney World Announces Closure of ‘Monsters, Inc.’ Attraction, Effective November 24

Magic Kingdom Park guests visiting during Thanksgiving week will have less time to catch the Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor. Walt Disney World Resort has quietly shortened the Tomorrowland show’s hours on four days, and it hasn’t said why.

The Affected Dates

This week, Walt Disney World Resort updated the attraction’s operational calendar to show a 6:00 p.m. closing time on the following days:

  • Tuesday, November 24
  • Wednesday, November 25
  • Friday, November 27
  • Saturday, November 28

Thanksgiving Day, November 26, is the exception. The Laugh Floor will close at its normal time of 9:00 p.m. that evening. Throughout the week, the interactive show inspired by Monsters, Inc. (2001) will still open at 9:00 a.m. as usual, even though it shuts down three hours early on most nights.

A Second Unexplained Early Closure

The notice follows Disney’s announcement just days earlier that Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid will close at 7:00 p.m. on November 5. Walt Disney World Resort hasn’t given a reason for either early shutdown in Tomorrowland or Fantasyland.

The cause could be minor maintenance or a private event. The theater space is also often used for trick-or-treating during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, so special uses of the venue aren’t unusual.

What About the Christmas Party?

During Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, Disney gives the Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor a holiday spin. The after-hours event takes over Magic Kingdom Park starting at 7:00 p.m. on select nights in November and December, including November 24, 25, and 27. Because those dates overlap with the early closures, it’s unclear whether the holiday-themed version of the show will still go on.

Guests planning to see the comedy show during Thanksgiving week should aim for daytime or early evening to be safe, and check the My Disney Experience app for the latest hours.
