Mold Infestation Confirmed on 7-Year-Old Disney World Ride

Black mold or mildew is covering portions of the Slinky Dog Dash queue at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, exposing thousands of Walt Disney World Resort guests to the substance while waiting for the Toy Story Land roller coaster.

WDWNT reported on February 16 that a blue Slinky Dog mural serving as a queue wall displays extensive mold patches. The outlet shared photos on Facebook showing the contamination.

The affected wall also shows paint or decal cracks, potentially caused by guest wear or mold damage. Edges of the mural are completely peeled away—deterioration that typically begins naturally, then worsens when bored theme park guests pick at loose sections.

The mold’s low position makes it easily accessible to children who may run their hands or faces along the wall while waiting in line. The queue location exposes families to the substance during extended wait times at the popular Toy Story Land roller coaster.

Recent Magic Kingdom Mold Cleanup

Walt Disney World Resort cleaned black mold or mildew from a partially-submerged gondola at “it’s a small world” in Magic Kingdom Park over the weekend. That issue persisted much longer, but didn’t pose the same risk, since Disney Park guests couldn’t reach the affected area.

Walt Disney World Resort has not issued statements on recent mold problems at its theme parks. Slinky Dog Dash opened in 2018 as part of Toy Story Land’s debut at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

The outdoor queue’s exposure to Florida’s humid climate creates conditions conducive to mold and mildew growth, requiring regular maintenance to prevent buildup. The visible contamination suggests cleaning schedules may not be adequate for the attraction’s environmental conditions.
