Earlier today, a new Disney Park attraction experienced closures after just two months in operation and has since reopened to an extreme average wait.
On January 27, 2023, Disney Parks debuted a second version of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, a popular Disney’s Hollywood Studios dark ride known for its adventurous plot and use of trackless ride technology at the Walt Disney World Resort. Although the entire refurbished portion of Mickey’s Toontown, which will receive all new areas like CenTOONial Park, Goofy’s How To Play Yard, and Donald’s Duck Pond, won’t release to Guests until later this month, the attraction opened ahead of this schedule in honor of the Disney100 celebration.

In fact, Disney revealed the attraction on the same day that Disneyland and Disney California Adventure’s 100 Years of Wonder festivities kicked off. As described online, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, located in the new El CapiTOON Theatre, invites Guests aboard for “a zippy and zany adventure through an ever-changing cartoon world in Disneyland Park at the Disneyland Resort in Southern California.”
Previously, DisneyDining reported on the ride’s high wait times since the removal of the virtual queue, which increased from between 34-37 minutes to about 96 minutes on average today alone. However, part of this lengthy time spent in the standby line seemed to align with interrupted operations, possibly due to technical difficulties from the new ride system.

For example, following a 29-minute interruption at 8:23 a.m. PST, the ride went down for a second time at 3:41 p.m., reopening 84 minutes later:

Unfortunately, extremely high wait times seem to have become the norm, with many Guests waiting over an hour to board since March 2, even with the option to utilize premium individual Lightning Lane and Genie+ features available.

Indeed, while Guests are likely happy the ride is up and running once more, the Disneyland app shows a current wait time of 120 minutes at the time of this article’s publication! If you didn’t get the chance to ride today, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway operates every day from 8:00 a.m. PST to 12:00 a.m. PST.
