Marvel Just Dropped Phase 7 Details Extending to 2029

Marvel has not yet rolled out a major Phase 7 announcement, but that has not stopped the bigger picture from starting to come together. Instead of one dramatic reveal, the latest clues have come through schedule changes, shifting release dates, and a few strategic moves that suggest Marvel may already be mapping out what comes after Phase 6.

On the surface, these updates look minor. One date moved. Two new dates added. Another slot taken away. But when you put those pieces together, it starts to look like Marvel is doing more than shuffling the calendar. It looks like the studio is shaping the next era of the MCU in real time.

That matters because the road ahead is about to change in a major way.

Phase 6 Still Has the Biggest Job to Finish

Before Phase 7 can take shape, Marvel still has to get through the end of Phase 6. And that ending is expected to be huge.

Right now, everything points toward Avengers: Doomsday (2026) and then Avengers: Secret Wars (2027) serving as the final stretch of the Multiverse Saga. Those two films are expected to pull together years of stories, alternate timelines, returning characters, and universe-jumping chaos.

More importantly, they could leave the MCU in a completely different place.

Marvel has spent years building out the Multiverse, and that storytelling approach has given the studio room to introduce legacy heroes, alternate worlds, and entirely new directions. Once Secret Wars (2027) is over, the franchise may have a chance to simplify, reset, and move into a new chapter with a cleaner focus.

That is why these Phase 7 reports are getting so much attention.

The Release Calendar May Be Telling the Story Early

According to a report from The Wrap, Marvel Studios has adjusted several of its long-term theatrical dates. One film that had been set for early 2028 is now scheduled for late July 2028. On top of that, two new release dates were added in 2029, while another 2028 date appears to have been removed.

That does not sound like much by itself. But together, those changes suggest Marvel may be narrowing its focus and planning a more deliberate slate.

If the current calendar ends up reflecting Phase 7, Marvel would be looking at five films across 2028 and 2029. That is a tighter approach than fans saw in other phases, and honestly, that may be the point. A smaller lineup could give each movie more room to matter.

Familiar Franchises Could Lead the Way

One likely early entry is a sequel to The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025). The cast of Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach is widely expected to return, and the next question may be where their story takes place after the events of the next Avengers movies. Franklin Richards also feels like a major factor waiting in the wings.

Wakanda also appears likely to stay central to Marvel’s future. A third Black Panther movie is widely expected, with Letitia Wright and Winston Duke positioned to continue that story. Ryan Coogler remains tied to the franchise, and the possibility of Denzel Washington joining only adds more interest. There is also continuing discussion around what Marvel may eventually do with T’Challa’s legacy.

Mutants, Magic, and Deadpool Could Define the Slate

The biggest turning point may come from the X-Men. Marvel is finally in a position to bring the team fully into its own cinematic universe, and the expected lineup already has fans watching closely. Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Rogue, Gambit, Nightcrawler, and Angel are all part of the conversation, while Mr. Sinister keeps coming up as a possible villain. Jake Schreier and Michael Lesslie are also tied to the project, giving it even more momentum.

Doctor Strange also seems likely to return in a third solo movie. That story could easily pick up after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), especially with Strange and Clea heading into the Dark Dimension. If Marvel wants to keep some Multiverse threads alive while starting a new era, that would be one of the easiest ways to do it.

Then there is Deadpool. After the enormous success of Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), it makes sense that Marvel would want another film built around Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson, especially if Hugh Jackman stays involved. If that movie lands at the end of this slate, it could give Phase 7 a loud and energetic finish.

Marvel May Finally Be Slowing Down for the Right Reasons

If these reports are accurate, Marvel may be entering a very different phase. Fewer films. More breathing room. Bigger swings.

After years of expanding across movies and streaming at the same time, that kind of reset may be exactly what the MCU needs. Nothing is official yet, but the schedule changes already suggest that Marvel is thinking carefully about what comes next.

And for a franchise that has spent years chasing scale, that may be the smartest move it can make.
