Disney World Announces Fantasyland Change That Will Affect Families Visiting the Magic Kingdom

Something is stirring behind a curtain in Fantasyland. After seven months of waiting, Magic Kingdom Park guests finally have a sign that a change is actively underway inside Walt Disney World Resort’s original theme park.

What Closed and Why

The PhotoPass studio inside Sir Mickey’s in Fantasyland shut down in September 2025 as part of a broader overhaul of the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique experience at Magic Kingdom Park. Previously, Walt Disney World Resort guests finishing their princess or prince makeover could head to the studio for a dedicated photography session. That step is now gone: post-makeover guests meet with the Fairy Godmother instead, and pose for photos there.

A curtain dropped over the former studio space when it closed and hasn’t moved since. Walt Disney World Resort did file construction permits for the area, outlining plans for scenic design, prop and set installation, and a six-foot interior wall. Still, for seven months, guests walking through Sir Mickey’s would never have guessed anything was happening.

That changed on April 15, when WDWNT reported that five tall white poles had emerged above the curtains concealing the former studio. The poles fall short of the ceiling but align with what the construction permits described, potentially the beginning of the wall structure planned for the space.

Shopping throughout the rest of Sir Mickey’s is unaffected. Walt Disney World Resort has not made any announcement about what the area will look like when the work is complete, and it remains possible that the finished product will be a backstage area for Disney cast members rather than anything accessible to theme park guests.
