Magic Kingdom Ferry Accident Puts Guests Into Scary Situation

For guests sailing away from Magic Kingdom on a warm Wednesday night, the last thing anyone expected was panic. Yet, as a fierce Florida storm rolled across Bay Lake, the General Joe Potter ferryboat collided with the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC) dock, throwing passengers forward and leaving emergency crews scrambling to respond.

Social media lit up in the early hours as stunned guests shared harrowing first-hand accounts of the unexpected crash, turning what should have been a routine boat ride into a frightening ordeal.

Details of the Ferryboat Incident

According to PulsePoint, a mutual aid call was issued just after 12:00 a.m., summoning multiple emergency units to the TTC ferry landing. Witnesses say the accident occurred around 11:40 p.m., during heavy rain and gusting winds.

Reddit user RockyDiMeo, who claims to have been on board, described the moment:

“Very scary scene. Boat was approaching the TTC dock when the boat came to a sudden and complete stop, throwing every passenger forward.”

In total, 19 guests were transported to area hospitals, with eight reportedly sustaining major injuries, and dozens more were evaluated on site.

The General Joe Potter has been removed from operation and sent to dry dock for evaluation. Two other ferryboats, the Admiral Joe Fowler and Richard F. Irvine, continue to operate for guests traveling between Magic Kingdom and the TTC.

Guest Reactions and Investigation

Eyewitness accounts describe a chaotic moment as passengers braced themselves—or were thrown forward—before a “loud crash” signaled impact with the dock. Another guest, Silver_Profile_4108, shared:

“It was scary. We were right down the front and could see it heading toward the dock and it wasn’t getting any slower.”

The cause of the incident remains under investigation. Disney has not released an official statement confirming whether severe weather, mechanical issues, or human error were responsible.

This is not the first ferryboat accident at Disney. Incidents were reported in 2021 and 2023, with one resulting in a lawsuit against the company.

Moving Forward: This Magic Kingdom Ferry Accident Should Be a Warning to All

Despite the rare nature of ferryboat collisions, the event serves as a reminder for guests to remain cautious during Florida’s unpredictable weather, especially when traveling by water. For now, the General Joe Potter remains out of service, and many fans are watching closely for updates on safety measures and any official statements from Disney.
