Walt Disney Imagineers are building a place to live — not just a place to visit. The latest update on the Storyliving by Disney North Carolina residential community offers the clearest picture yet of what arriving at Asteria will feel like.
A First Look at the Entryway
On August 5, Disney Parks Blog shared new details about Asteria, a Storyliving by Disney community coming to the Pittsboro area of North Carolina’s Piedmont region. Most of Wednesday’s update focused on the community’s entryway, designed to reflect the natural character of the surrounding North Carolina landscape rather than impose an artificial one.
The entrance is being built using an intentional dry-stacking method, with materials sourced directly from the site, including metavolcanic rock, quartz, and rhyolite. The approach ties the community’s arrival experience to its specific geography in a way that feels grounded rather than manufactured. The centerpiece of the entryway is a moon gate — a circular architectural feature that frames the passage into Asteria and serves as the first impression for residents and guests.

More About Asteria
Asteria is the second Storyliving by Disney community, following Cotino in Rancho Mirage, California, where model homes are already on display for prospective residents. The North Carolina community is named after both the native North Carolina aster flower and the Greek goddess of the same name.
Disney first shared significant details about Asteria in April, including information about the Second Star Club — described as the “social heart” of the community, inspired by Peter Pan (1953). The facility is designed around gathering, wellness, and creativity, offering residents morning yoga, learning opportunities with Disney experts, recreational amenities, and a signature restaurant called Marquet Hall.
Approximately 4,000 residential units are planned for the Pittsboro location. Home sales are expected to begin in fall 2027, with the first residents moving in sometime in 2028.
