Late-Night Thrills: Animal Kingdom Extends Operating Hours to Midnight

Disney’s Animal Kingdom is a park that has always marched to the beat of its own drum. Unlike Magic Kingdom and EPCOT, it typically shuts down early, often by 7 p.m., to accommodate the needs of the animals. But in a move that has shocked Disney fans, the park will be open until midnight for one night only.

On March 9, 2025, Animal Kingdom will host a special ticketed event that will allow guests to experience the park after dark like never before. The extended hours, running from 8 p.m. to midnight, will be available for those attending the Universal Cheerleading Association National High School Championship.

This is a significant departure from the park’s usual schedule. Guests rarely get to experience the full effect of Pandora – The World of Avatar’s breathtaking bioluminescent glow, since the park often closes before darkness fully sets in. Now, those attending the event will have the chance to walk through the Valley of Mo’ara at night, experiencing its otherworldly beauty without the usual rush to the exit.

Food plays a major role in any Disney visit, and the extended hours could mean a chance to grab a late-night bite at some of Animal Kingdom’s fan-favorite spots. While Disney has not officially announced which dining locations will remain open during the event, here’s some of our favorite quick-service stops:

  • Satu’li Canteen – Known for its customizable bowls and Cheeseburger Pods, this Pandora eatery could be the perfect stop before a nighttime ride on Flight of Passage.
  • Flame Tree Barbecue – If the smell of smoked meats lingers into the night, this quick-service location would be an ideal stop for those craving barbecue.
  • Pongu Pongu – This go-to spot in Pandora is famous for the colorful Night Blossom drink, a refreshing choice for a warm Florida evening.

What This Means for Future Events

Disney has not indicated that this event will lead to more frequent late-night hours at Animal Kingdom, but it does suggest that they are willing to experiment. If this proves to be a success, could we see more exclusive after-hours events at Animal Kingdom in the future?

For now, this remains a one-time special occasion, but it’s a night that attendees won’t soon forget. Seeing Pandora’s glowing landscape in its full glory and experiencing attractions after dark is a rare treat, and this historic late-night event will make that possible.
