Tim Allen has been a huge part of the Disney and ABC families for decades and has brought laughs into millions of households. Starting in 1991, Allen became one of Disney’s most recognized celebrities when he starred as Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor in the hit ABC show, Home Improvement. From there, he only became bigger, starring in hit movies like Toy Story (1995), The Santa Clause (1994), and Jungle 2 Jungle (1997).

Toy Story and The Santa Clause are two of Disney’s biggest franchises, and both have Allen in a lead role. Allen has voiced the iconic Space Ranger, Buzz Lightyear, in four Toy Story films, as well as Toy Story short films and video games. He also starred as Scott Calvin (AKA Santa) in The Santa Clause, The Santa Clause 2 (2002), The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause (2006), and the uber-successful Disney+ series, The Santa Clauses.
Most recently, Allen starred in the popular show, Last Man Standing, which aired for ten years. The first six seasons of Last Man Standing aired on ABC, and the final three seasons aired on FOX. The series ended in 2021, but Allen’s career with Disney was not done.
Last month, Disney announced that Allen would star in a new ABC show called Shifting Gears. Disney and ABC haven’t shared much about the show, but we do know that Allen will play Matt, a widower who owns a car restoration shop. His life is upended when his estranged daughter and her teenage children move into his house.

And now we have some more big casting news — and Marvel fans are sure to be excited!
According to reports, Thor (2011) and WandaVision star Kat Dennings has been cast as Matt’s (Allen) estranged daughter, Riley! ABC has shared that Riley and Matt always butted heads while she was growing up, culminating in her leaving to marry her boyfriend, who Matt hated. The two were estranged for years, but now Riley is divorced and has nowhere else to turn.

Dennings will also produce the new series. Shifting Gears is being written by Mike Scully and his wife, Julie Thacker-Scully, who have both produced the iconic show The Simpsons. The Scullys will also serve as executive producers alongside Tim Allen, Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker, and Rick Messina.
Adelstein, Clements, Baker, and Messina were all producers on Allen’s last cable show, Last Man Standing. Baker and Messina also worked as producers on Jungle 2 Jungle and The Santa Clauses.
