Universal Closes Jurassic World – The Ride at Universal Studios Hollywood

Here's When the Ride Will Reopen (Hopefully)

Jurassic World – The Ride is temporarily closed at Universal Studios Hollywood, removing one of the park’s major Lower Lot attractions from the lineup for much of the fall. Universal’s official attraction page says the water ride is undergoing refurbishment and is scheduled to reopen November 21, 2026.

For guests visiting before then, the closure changes the math of a Universal day. The Lower Lot remains home to other major experiences, but families arriving specifically for Jurassic World will find its headline ride unavailable—and will need to build their plans around a smaller active attraction lineup in that part of the park.

Jurassic World – The Ride Is Closed Until November 21

Universal lists Jurassic World – The Ride as “temporarily closed for refurbishment.” Its official operating calendar likewise places the attraction under “Temporary Attraction Closures” and gives November 21 as the scheduled reopening date.

That wording matters. Universal has not announced that the attraction is permanently closing, being replaced, or receiving a new storyline. There is also no official announcement detailing what work is being completed during the refurbishment.

The ride itself is a water-based thrill attraction with a 42-inch minimum height requirement; guests under 48 inches require a supervising companion. Universal’s current description highlights the Mosasaurus, Indominus rex, and the escalating dinosaur escape that leads into the attraction’s climactic finale.

The Lower Lot Loses a Major Attraction

Jurassic World – The Ride occupies an important place in Universal Studios Hollywood’s Lower Lot. Universal’s own park information identifies facilities around Jurassic Cafe as being on the Lower Lot, reinforcing the Jurassic area’s location within this section of the park.

That makes this more than a cosmetic refurbishment from a trip-planning perspective. Guests can still head downstairs for other experiences, but Jurassic World is temporarily removed from that mix.

What cannot be stated as fact is that the closure will automatically produce extreme waits elsewhere. Crowd levels and attraction waits vary by date and operating conditions. Still, taking one major attraction offline gives visitors one fewer ride to distribute their day around, making itinerary planning especially important for families with limited time.

Inside the Magic has previously covered Jurassic World ride downtime at Universal Studios Hollywood, while the park’s current closure is notable for its scheduled multiweek duration.

A Jurassic Attraction With Years of Hollywood History

The current Jurassic World attraction opened in July 2019, replacing the former Jurassic Park – The Ride with an experience tied to the newer film franchise. Inside the Magic covered the 2019 opening, including the arrival of the Mosasaurus sequence and appearances by characters from the Jurassic World films.

The attraction received another notable update in 2021. Ahead of Universal Studios Hollywood’s reopening that year, the ride added an updated finale centered on Indominus rex and Tyrannosaurus rex.

That history helps explain why the current refurbishment deserves attention without turning it into something Universal has not announced. Jurassic World – The Ride has already undergone substantial creative changes during its lifetime, but there is currently no verified indication that this closure represents another reimagining.

Guests should therefore treat the November date as a maintenance-related reopening target, not evidence of a new version of the ride.

Universal Has a New Headliner Elsewhere in the Park

The timing does give Universal Studios Hollywood an important counterweight: Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift officially opened September 16, 2026. Universal describes it as the park’s first outdoor high-speed roller coaster, featuring 360-degree vehicle rotation.

Inside the Magic covered the coaster’s official opening plans and attraction details as Universal prepared to add another marquee thrill ride. Its debut means guests visiting while Jurassic World is unavailable still have a major new thrill ride to experience.

But Hollywood Drift does not replace Jurassic World in practical terms. They are different ride systems, franchises, and experiences, and guests who planned a trip around dinosaurs and the Jurassic property will still be missing that centerpiece.

The closure also overlaps with part of Universal Studios Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights season, which runs on select nights through November 1. Inside the Magic has reported on how Hollywood Drift is being incorporated into the 2026 event, giving fall visitors another new attraction-related consideration when planning their day or night.

What Guests Should Check Before Visiting Universal Studios Hollywood

For now, November 21 is the key date. Universal’s operating calendar notes that individual attraction operations can differ, and park information is subject to change, making the official Universal Studios Hollywood calendar the best place to check shortly before a visit.

Guests traveling before the scheduled reopening should plan with Jurassic World – The Ride unavailable rather than assuming it will return early. Those visiting on or after November 21 should still verify its status before arriving, particularly if the attraction is a priority.

There is no confirmed new scene, dinosaur, ride system, or permanent change attached to this refurbishment. Until Universal says otherwise, the story is straightforward: Jurassic World – The Ride is temporarily offline, the Lower Lot has one fewer major attraction in operation, and Universal currently expects the dinosaurs to return November 21.
