J.K. Rowling, the celebrated author of the Harry Potter series, has enjoyed immense commercial success since the release of her books. Her literary work has gained her worldwide fame and financial prosperity, making her a household name.

However, over the past few years, Rowling has faced significant backlash due to her vocal attacks on the transgender community, which many have labeled transphobic and led to Rowling being considered a TERF – a trans-exclusionary radical feminist. Her controversial statements have led to divisions among her fan base and created conflicts with other public figures, further complicating her legacy.

Her vocal transphobia has created tensions between Rowling and several prominent celebrities, including Harry Potter stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint.

Now, she is facing backlash from Doctor Who fans, who are rallying behind David Tennant in his defense.

Earlier this year, Tennant found himself in a public feud with Kemi Badenoch, leader of Britain’s Conservative Party. Badenoch has been outspoken against the LGBTQ+ community, particularly transgender individuals. She has opposed laws supporting transgender rights, rejected gender-neutral bathrooms in public spaces, and compared transgender surgeries to conversion therapy.

Following Kemi Badenoch’s announcement as the new leader of the Conservative Party, Rowling tweeted, “My thoughts and prayers are with David Tennant at this very difficult time.” This comment quickly drew criticism as many perceived it as targeting Tennant’s earlier outspoken stance on LGBTQ+ rights.

Tennant had previously expressed his disapproval of Badenoch’s views, particularly her opposition to gender reassignment as a protected characteristic. At the British LGBT Awards, he had remarked that he wished Badenoch would “shut up,” indicating strong opposition to her policies.

“If I’m honest, I’m a little depressed by the fact that acknowledging that everyone has the right to be who they want to be and live their life how they want to live it as long as they’re not hurting anyone else should merit any kind of special award or special mention – because it’s common sense, isn’t it?

“It is human decency. We shouldn’t live in a world where that is worth remarking on. However, until we wake up and Kemi Badenoch doesn’t exist any more – I don’t wish ill of her, I just wish her to shut up – whilst we do live in this world, I am honoured to receive this.”

In response to Rowling’s biting comment, fans have leaped to defend Tennant, declaring that he remains a national treasure while questioning Rowling’s continued public attacks. Social media platforms became a battleground, with many users voicing their support for Tennant and expressing disapproval of Rowling’s remarks.

More than one social media user said that Rowling was still bitter about the fact that she never got to appear in an episode of Doctor Who.

Fun fact. David Tennant said no to JK being associated with Doctor Who, hence her eternal saltiness about him.

Making David even more awesome.

Here’s an unrelated photograph of David in a t-shirt that says ‘leave trans kids alone, you absolute freaks’.

I love him.

JK Rowling is still salty about that time David Tennant vetoed her appearing on Doctor Who. She’s always wanted to be a star and her big break into acting was cut short by The Doctor himself. Since then she has taken to acting like a fool on social media.

Other commenters pointed out the fact that Tennant had actually starred in a Harry Potter film, and Rowling still didn’t like that fact. In 2005 Tennant starred as Barty Crouch Jr. in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

JK Rowling is coming for David Tennant now. She’s utterly pathetic. It must really annoy her that he’s in the movie versions of the books she’s written. 😂

This incident adds to Rowling’s ongoing controversies surrounding her views on gender identity and transgender rights. Her reputation has suffered, with many labeling her ongoing behavior as indicative of a broader trend of refusing to accept the changing societal landscape regarding gender inclusivity.

Rowling is currently serving as executive producer on the new Harry Potter series being produced for Max. There has been a ton of backlash, with fans protesting her involvement. Warner Bros. has been largely silent on its decision to bring Rowling onto the project, but if she continues to garner negative headlines, the studio might be forced to act.
