Jeremy Renner Teases Hopeful Return That Could Rock the MCU
It’s not every day that fans get hopeful news about a founding Avenger. After years of uncertainty, Jeremy Renner has given Marvel fans a reason to believe that Hawkeye might return. His recent comments have reignited the conversation around Clint Barton’s future, hinting that the hero’s story could continue with a holiday twist.
This isn’t just random fan speculation either—Renner himself is talking, and his words have fans buzzing.
How the MCU Grew—and Why Hawkeye Still Matters
The Marvel Cinematic Universe began small but has become one of the most expansive storytelling universes ever created. Over the years, Marvel introduced a wave of heroes from all corners of the Multiverse—some cosmic, some mystical, some street-level.
But through it all, Hawkeye remained a constant. Unlike the godlike or super-powered characters, Clint Barton has always been human—a skilled fighter who holds his own among legends. That relatability made him stand out from the beginning.

From The Avengers to Disney+
Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye first appeared in The Avengers (2012). Since then, he’s fought in world-saving battles, helped form the team, and mentored the next generation of heroes. In 2021, Marvel gave him the spotlight with Hawkeye on Disney+, pairing him with Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop in a story set during the holidays.
It looked like a new chapter was beginning… until Renner’s real-life accident changed everything.

A “Low-Blow” Offer
In 2023, Renner nearly lost his life in a snowplow accident, breaking 38 bones and spending months recovering. Marvel reportedly offered him a return—but for “half the money” he’d made before. He didn’t hide how hurtful that was, calling it a “low blow.”
Still, Renner didn’t shut the door. He acknowledged the possibility of Hawkeye Season 2 and made it clear he’s willing to return once he’s fully healed.

Festive Plans for Season 2
Renner later shared early plot ideas for Season 2, revealing the plan to keep the Christmas setting alive. “That was always the idea,” he said, noting how magical New York feels during the holidays. This lines up with rumors that the next season would draw inspiration from Die Hard (1988), adding action and tension to the holiday vibe.
Marvel reportedly wanted Clint and Kate trapped in one location, facing off against Trickshot—Clint’s brother Barney Barton. An A-list actor was even eyed for the role. The original plan was to shoot in 2025 and release the show by 2026 or 2027, but delays have made the timeline less specific.

Holiday Return Still on the Table
Even with shifting schedules, Marvel seems committed to the idea of a holiday-themed follow-up. A fall or winter premiere remains the likely window. Renner himself said he’ll “always dance” with Marvel, adding that when the timing is right, and if the demand is still there, he’ll suit up again.
The Costar Factor
Hawkeye’s future also depends on Hailee Steinfeld. Her character, Kate Bishop, is rumored to join Champions, a new series featuring younger heroes. If she leads that show, Hawkeye and Champions could merge—allowing Renner’s Clint Barton to step into the mentor role many Young Avengers stories are built around.

The Arrow Might Fly Again
Jeremy Renner has spent more than a decade as one of Marvel’s most grounded heroes. His willingness to return, even after a bruising contract offer, shows how much the role means to him. And with Marvel seeking to recapture some of its early magic, Hawkeye’s return might be the shot in the arm the franchise needs.
Whether it’s a solo season, a team-up, or something entirely new, Clint Barton may not be finished yet.
