Disney Reopens “it’s a small world” After Locking Guests Out, Major Changes Revealed
After months of anticipation, Disneyland Resort’s iconic “it’s a small world” attraction is officially reopening, revealing major changes to the Fantasyland boat ride.
The journey to the reopening began after the “it’s a small world holiday” overlay came down in January 2025. Disney quickly covered the attraction with construction walls, signaling the start of a lengthy renovation project.
Guests watched as the iconic clock face was temporarily removed and replaced with a flat decal. Crews tore up concrete walkways near the ride’s entrance, leaving the space behind walls for several months. While the external changes grabbed attention, the biggest reveals were happening inside the attraction.
According to WDWNT, “it’s a small world” has emerged from its refurbishment phase, with the construction walls finally removed by late April 2025. The exterior has been refreshed, and the clock face, which had been sent off for a special offsite refurbishment, has been returned to its rightful place. While the clock face is back, some of the exterior’s more dynamic features, such as moving parts and special effects, remain motionless for the time being.
But the excitement doesn’t end with the exterior changes. New surprises await inside the attraction as part of Disneyland Resort’s 70th anniversary celebrations. The Coco (2017) movie franchise has made its mark on the ride with the addition of new themed dolls. Fans of the “it’s a small world” anthem will also notice a new verse, written by the late Sherman Brothers, now part of the attraction’s iconic tune.
To top off the celebrations, Disney has introduced the “Tapestry of Happiness” projection show, which will light up the attraction’s exterior during the evening hours. The show is set to run until summer 2026 as part of the Disneyland70 festivities.
“it’s a small world” officially reopens on May 16, 2025, the first day of Disneyland Resort’s 70th anniversary celebrations.
