Disney Gives Fans Sneak Peek at Reimagined, Modern ”it’s a small world” Ride

On Monday, Disneyland Resort shared a first look at some new additions to the “it’s a small world” attraction. After two delays, the Disneyland Park ride is scheduled to reopen on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.

“it’s a small world” is getting the VIP treatment as part of Disneyland Resort’s 70th anniversary celebrations. After closing for the removal of the annual “it’s a small world holiday” overlay in January, Walt Disney Imagineers began refreshing the attraction’s exterior and concrete walkways nearby. The ride’s iconic clock face even disappeared briefly for offsite refurbishment, replaced with a 2D decal.

In addition to some touch-ups and maintenance, Disneyland Resort announced two permanent changes to “it’s a small world” as part of the Disneyland70 celebrations. They include a final song verse written by the late Sherman brothers and dolls of Miguel and Dante from Pixar’s Coco (2017).

“it’s a small world” was supposed to reopen on April 25, but it was delayed until May 9. On May 8, Disneyland Resort revealed that the refreshed Fantasyland attraction wouldn’t premiere until May 13.

Now, one day ahead of the grand reopening, Disneyland Resort has given guests a sneak peek at the new Coco dolls on “it’s a small world.” @DisneyParks posted this photo on X (formerly known as Twitter):

We’re going un poco loco seeing Miguel and his alebrije, Dante, for the first time in “it’s a small world” at @Disneyland! And starting tomorrow, every familia will be able to enjoy the new update in sunny Mexico when the attraction officially reopens.

The Coco dolls will debut on “it’s a small world” when it reopens on May 13, 2025, while the final song verse will begin playing on Disneyland Park’s birthday, July 17. A third addition to the 58-year-old Disney Park ride won’t debut until the Disneyland70 celebrations begin on May 16: the “Tapestry of Happiness” nighttime projection show will light up the attraction every night through summer 2026.

29 Disney characters first appeared on Disneyland Resort’s “it’s a small world” in 2008. Walt Disney World Resort‘s version of the boat ride, located in Magic Kingdom Park, has never received similar additions.
