Disney’s Animal Kingdom has just welcomed a fascinating, albeit invasive, new resident—a Burmese Python—to its Conservation Station at Rafiki’s Planet Watch.

This isn’t just any ordinary addition; the Burmese Python exhibit is part of Disney’s commitment to raising awareness about invasive species and their impact on local ecosystems, particularly in Florida’s delicate Everglades region.
Burmese Pythons are infamous for their significant impact on native wildlife in Florida, where they’ve taken over as apex predators due to their impressive size and predatory skills.
These reptiles, which can grow up to 18 feet long, have severely reduced populations of local mammals and birds in the Everglades, posing a real threat to the region’s biodiversity. Initially introduced as exotic pets, many Burmese Pythons eventually escaped into the wild, where they have since established a thriving population in South Florida.

Disney’s new exhibit, however, is not only a showcase of this impressive species but also an educational experience for guests. The area surrounding the Burmese Python’s habitat is lined with informative signs explaining how invasive species, like this snake, can disrupt local ecosystems.
