Universal Reopens Previously “Abandoned” Location From 1999

New Site Now Selling Merchandise

Honk Honkers is reportedly selling holiday merchandise again inside Seuss Landing at Universal Islands of Adventure, giving Universal Orlando visitors another place to shop for the Grinch before the Christmas celebration begins.

The development comes from Magic City Mayhem’s supplied X report, which identifies a new Universal holiday merchandise location. The reopening report describes Grinchmas and other seasonal goods inside the familiar storefront. Its exact reopening date, operating schedule, and long-term future remain unverified.

The commercial implication is straightforward: a space associated with seasonal character encounters could now generate merchandise sales, too. But describing that change as Universal reclaiming an abandoned building would miss an important part of its history.

Honk Honkers Returns to the Holiday Shopping Conversation

For guests, the reported change concerns an existing location in Seuss Landing, inside Islands of Adventure in Orlando. It is not a new land, a replacement ride, or an announced expansion of the park.

Inside the Magic previously covered work around Honk Honkers in 2025, when construction walls prompted questions about the location’s future. That earlier work provides context for the storefront’s changing appearance, but it does not establish when the current retail operation began.

Magic City Mayhem is the named source for the latest observation. The supplied post could be located in search results, although its full media could not be independently inspected during this review.

That leaves an important limit on the news: the reported merchandise operation should not be presented as a formally announced permanent reopening. Nor does the available evidence establish exclusive products, a complete inventory, or merchandise prices.

The Storefront Wasn’t Simply Abandoned

Honk Honkers has a documented life beyond shopping. Universal’s own holiday guide identifies it as a Grinch photo opportunity location across from Moose Juice, Goose Juice.

Disney Dining’s coverage of the Grinch’s move into Honk Honkers described the former candy shop becoming the character’s lair in 2022. That account establishes a guest-facing use during the period sometimes described as years of abandonment.

The distinction changes the story. A former retail space used for seasonal entertainment is different from a building that has served no purpose.

Earlier reporting places the candy shop’s closure in 2020, but that does not prove an uninterrupted retail shutdown through the current report. Without a verified operating timeline, “closed for nearly six years” is too absolute.

The more defensible description is a reported return to merchandise sales at a storefront already linked to the Grinch. Its seasonal history explains why holiday stock would fit the location without establishing Universal’s internal reasoning.

An Existing Space Offers Another Sales Opportunity

There is a clear business angle here, even without calling the move a cash grab. If the reported operation continues, Universal can offer another shopping stop within the same land that hosts Grinchmas.

That is an interpretation of the space’s potential use, rather than evidence of a disclosed corporate real estate strategy. No reviewed source supplies sales targets, conversion figures, staffing costs, or an investment amount for Honk Honkers.

Universal already combines holiday storytelling and shopping elsewhere. Inside the Magic’s coverage of the first Christmas Tribute Store documented a seasonal retail concept at Universal Studios Florida, including a room inspired by the Grinch.

That history makes holiday merchandise part of an established offering. It does not prove that this particular reopening represents a new resort-wide revenue initiative.

For visitors who want souvenirs, an additional store could be convenient. For families managing a vacation budget, another retail stop remains an optional expense rather than an additional requirement to enjoy the seasonal entertainment.

What Changes for Grinchmas Visitors?

Universal’s official 2026 holiday announcement schedules the resort-wide celebration from November 14 through January 3, 2027. It confirms Grinchmas in Seuss Landing, including the Grinchmas Who-liday Spectacular and opportunities to meet the Grinch.

The reported shop opening does not, by itself, establish what happens to character encounters inside Honk Honkers. Merchandise sales now and a meet-and-greet later are different operational questions.

Inside the Magic’s recent coverage of unanswered Grinch breakfast questions offers a related planning reminder: separate experiences need separate confirmation. A shop report cannot establish a character schedule or settle the status of another holiday offering.

Guests should check current Universal information before building their day around a particular character location. Anyone making a special trip for merchandise should also confirm that the store is operating and that the desired item is available.

What to Watch as the Holidays Approach

Honk Honkers is a smaller development within a wider seasonal rollout. Universal’s official announcement also confirms new holiday décor at SUPER NINTENDO WORLD and How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk at Epic Universe.

Inside the Magic’s coverage of Epic Universe’s Christmas additions explains that broader expansion of seasonal offerings. Those confirmed additions should remain distinct from the still-developing Honk Honkers report.

The next useful details are practical ones: whether the retail setup stays through Grinchmas, whether operating hours are published, and where guests will meet the Grinch. A verified merchandise inventory would also help establish what this location adds to existing shopping options.

Until those details emerge, Honk Honkers is best understood as a reported holiday retail return with an unresolved timetable. Whether it becomes a lasting shopping stop or a brief seasonal arrangement is the development visitors should watch next.

Since first stepping inside the Magic Kingdom at nine years old, I knew I was destined to be a theme Park enthusiast. Although I consider myself a theme Park junkie, I still have much to learn and discover about Disney. Universal Orlando Resort has my heart; being an Annual Passholder means visiting my favorite places on Earth when possible! When I’m not writing about Disney, Universal, or entertainment news, you’ll find me cruising on my motorcycle, hiking throughout my local metro parks, or spending quality time with my girlfriend, family, or friends.
