Returning visitors to Disney’s Hollywood Studios may notice something missing the next time they pass The Hollywood Brown Derby.
The restaurant’s famous outdoor patio isn’t where it’s been for nearly four decades.
Before anyone worries that Disney has eliminated another piece of the park’s history, there’s good news. The patio hasn’t been removed permanently. It has simply been relocated while work continues on an exterior refurbishment of the restaurant.
An Original Hollywood Studios Feature Gets Relocated
The Hollywood Brown Derby has welcomed guests since Disney’s Hollywood Studios opened in 1989.
Over the years, it has become one of the park’s most celebrated restaurants, known for upscale dining and its outdoor lounge that provides a relaxing escape from the busy walkways nearby.
As refurbishment continues, Disney has temporarily closed the patio’s longtime location at the front of the restaurant.
Instead of outdoor tables greeting guests near the entrance, rolling hedge planters now occupy the space while construction crews complete work on the building.
You Can Still Visit the Brown Derby Patio
The good news is that Disney didn’t close the lounge.
Guests will now find the patio tucked beside the restaurant in the former Starring Rolls Bakery area.
The temporary location still features the Brown Derby Lounge’s walk-up service along with shaded seating, allowing guests to enjoy the same food and beverage offerings while the refurbishment continues.
Meanwhile, the restaurant’s indoor dining room remains fully open for lunch and dinner.
It’ll Return—Just Not Yet
Disney has confirmed that the patio’s move is only temporary.
Once the exterior project wraps up, the outdoor seating area will return to its original location. The company has not announced when that will happen, so guests should expect the temporary arrangement to remain in place for the time being.
For longtime Disney fans, it’s another reminder that even small refurbishment projects can noticeably change the appearance of a park that millions of guests have visited for generations.
More Changes Are Coming to Hollywood Studios
The Brown Derby isn’t the only part of Hollywood Studios evolving. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets has been welcoming riders since opening in May, while work continues on the future Monsters, Inc. Land replacing the former Muppet*Vision 3-D area. That expansion is expected to open around 2028 or 2029.
Elsewhere, the park’s reimagined Walt Disney Studios area continues to take shape. Guests can already explore the new courtyard and Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live!, while The Magic of Disney Animation is set to officially open on September 14, 2026.
