Universal Orlando Resort keeps moving forward at full speed. Epic Universe has already changed the conversation around theme parks in Florida, and construction continues across multiple areas of Universal property. While fans focus on what is coming next, another longtime experience is quietly preparing to disappear forever.
Universal has confirmed that a nearly 30-year-old attraction will close on May 16, 2026. That leaves guests with very little time left to experience one of the strangest interactive elements still operating inside Universal’s Islands of Adventure.
The closure may also signal a much bigger transformation ahead for The Lost Continent.

Universal Continues Replacing Older Attractions
Longtime Universal fans have seen this pattern before.
Over the years, Universal Orlando Resort has removed several classic attractions while replacing them with newer experiences tied to larger franchises. Some of those changes became major successes, but many fans still miss the original attractions that helped define the parks.
Earthquake: The Big One eventually became Disaster! before disappearing entirely. Jaws vanished from Universal Studios Florida despite years of popularity, and many fans still remember how much energy Amity Island brought to the park. Back to the Future: The Ride also closed, despite maintaining a strong fan following.
Universal also retired Dragon Challenge, previously known as Dueling Dragons, inside The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. The resort replaced the coaster with Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, which quickly became one of the most popular attractions at Universal Orlando.
Even smaller experiences, like Island Skipper Tours, eventually disappeared as the resort continued to evolve.
Now, another piece of Islands of Adventure appears to be reaching the end of its run.

The Lost Continent Faces More Changes
For years, The Lost Continent stood out as one of the most visually impressive sections of Islands of Adventure. Massive stone archways, mythology-inspired buildings, and detailed water effects help create a completely different atmosphere on the land, distinct from the rest of the park.
That changed once The Wizarding World of Harry Potter expanded into portions of the area.
Many fans felt The Lost Continent slowly lost its identity after those additions arrived. Then, in 2023, Universal permanently closed Poseidon’s Fury, removing one of the last major attractions in the land.
Since then, the area has largely become a quiet walkthrough section rather than a destination that guests spend significant time exploring.
Construction walls now surround portions of the land, and redevelopment activity continues behind the scenes. Universal has not revealed exactly what comes next, but the resort clearly appears to be preparing for something much larger.

Mystic Fountain Is About To Disappear
The next closure centers around the Mystic Fountain.
Unlike a traditional attraction, the talking fountain became famous for its direct interaction with guests. It joked with visitors, sprayed water unexpectedly, and created funny exchanges that families remembered long after leaving the park.
Children often stopped to challenge the fountain while trying not to get soaked. Team Members also helped make the interactions feel spontaneous and entertaining throughout the day.
Reports indicate that the Mystic Fountain will permanently close on May 16, 2026.
That means guests may only have about 48 hours left before the experience disappears forever.
For many longtime Universal fans, this feels like another major sign that The Lost Continent is nearing its final chapter.

Rumors Continue Surrounding The Land’s Future
Universal has not announced what will replace The Lost Continent, but speculation continues to grow online.
Pokémon remains one of the biggest rumors tied to the area. Since SUPER NINTENDO WORLD became a massive success at Epic Universe, many fans believe Universal could expand Nintendo properties across additional parks.
Others continue to point to The Legend of Zelda as another possible fit for Islands of Adventure. Fans have imagined elaborate fantasy environments inspired by Hyrule for years.
The Lord of the Rings also continues to surface in online discussions about the land’s future.
At this point, Universal has confirmed very little beyond the closures and construction activity. Still, many guests believe the resort is preparing for another major transformation inside Islands of Adventure.
