‘Harry Potter’ TV Series Could Bring Back Even More Familiar Faces After Latest Casting Reveal
When HBO announced its new Harry Potter series, the plan was clear: a ground-up adaptation of the seven books with an entirely new cast. However, the recent reveal that Warwick Davis will return as Professor Flitwick has shifted things in a big way. Instead of a strict reboot, could this be the Wizarding World’s first step into the Multiverse?
It might explain why Davis can return while everyone else is recast, and it also creates a bridge between the original films, the new series, and even other projects like the open-world video game “Hogwarts Legacy”. Instead of erasing the past, a Multiverse framework could validate it — and that’s something longtime Potter fans would likely welcome.
Beyond fan service, the timing is perfect. Multiverses are dominating storytelling across media. Marvel and DC have made them mainstream, while franchises like Terminator and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have used them to refresh old continuity. HBO tapping into that trend would put the Wizarding World in step with the larger pop culture landscape.
Most interesting of all, however, is the potential for cameos. If this really is a Multiverse, the new series could justify appearances from legacy cast members — whether it’s a quick scene with Michael Gambon’s Dumbledore, a flash-forward glimpse of Daniel Radcliffe’s Harry, or even an alternate timeline cameo from Tom Felton or Jason Isaacs.
These moments wouldn’t dominate the show, but they’d thrill older fans and create instant headlines.

The reboot can still remain faithful to J.K. Rowling’s books while acknowledging the films that defined a generation. Fans don’t have to choose between old and new because both would exist simultaneously.
Warwick Davis’s casting is probably nothing more than a nod to the films, but it might also be HBO’s way of signaling something bigger. If the Harry Potter series truly embraces the Multiverse, it won’t just be a retelling — it’ll be a celebration of everything the Wizarding World has been and everything it could still become.
HBO’s Harry Potter cast includes John Lithgow (Albus Dumbledore), Nick Frost (Rubeus Hagrid), Paapa Essiedu (Severus Snape), Katherine Parkinson (Molly Weasley), Arabella Stanton (Hermione Granger), Alastair Stout (Ron Weasley), Dominic McLaughlin (Harry Potter), Paul Whitehouse (Argus Filch), Janet McTeer (Minerva McGonagall), Luke Thallon (Quirinus Quirrell), Leigh Gill (Griphook), and Lox Pratt (Draco Malfoy).
The Harry Potter series will debut in 2027 on HBO and HBO Max.
