‘Harry Potter’ Makes Animated Debut in Official New Trailer
Harry Potter has spanned nearly every medium imaginable—novels, blockbuster films, stage plays, audiobooks, and video games such as “Hogwarts Legacy”.
But the wizarding world has largely remained unanimated, aside from cutscenes and game sequences. The franchise has yet to fully explore animation as a storytelling form, leaving fans to imagine how Hogwarts might look in motion beyond the films.

With that said, Monopoly GO!’s latest seasonal event offers a glimpse of what a fully animated Harry Potter world could feel like, even though it’s only in the mobile game.
An official trailer showcases the game’s wizarding world and its characters, with magical animated sequences featuring the likes of Harry, Ron, and Hermione, and even Voldemort and Snape in iconic locations like Hogwarts Castle and Diagon Alley. Watch it below:

The trailer emphasizes the game’s animated aesthetic, blending the playful Monopoly universe with the enchantment of J.K. Rowling’s world. While it is, of course, cinematic and not actual gameplay footage, it still captures the magic and atmosphere of the franchise while giving food for thought about the potential for animated adaptations in the future.
Per HarryPotter.com, the seasonal event invites players to explore interactive maps inspired by familiar locations, earn House Crest Shields, and unlock collectible stickers featuring famous characters, magical artifacts, and memorable scenes. Additional mini-games, such as Quidditch races and puzzle challenges, further immerse players in a whimsical animated environment.
Other major franchises such as Marvel and Star Wars have already expanded into animation. Even Stranger Things is now getting the animated treatment, with Netflix and the Duffer Brothers developing Tales From ’85, a 3D animated spinoff set between the show’s second and third seasons, which is scheduled to debut in 2026.

The Harry Potter TV series
Looking ahead, the wizarding world is set to return to screens with the Harry Potter TV series, proving that the franchise is far from finished reinventing itself across platforms.
John Lithgow (Albus Dumbledore), Nick Frost (Rubeus Hagrid), Janet McTeer (Minerva McGonagall), Paul Whitehouse (Argus Filch), Katherine Parkinson (Molly Weasley), Alastair Stout (Ron Weasley), Arabella Stanton (Hermione Granger), and Dominic McLaughlin (Harry Potter) are among its extensive cast. The show will have seven seasons, each based upon one of Rowling’s books.
It’s written and executive-produced by showrunner Francesca Gardiner (HBO’s Succession, His Dark Materials, Killing Eve). J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films are also onboard as executive producers. Mark Mylod (Succession, Game of Thrones, The Last of Us) will executive-produce and direct multiple episodes.
Harry Potter Season 1 is expected to premiere in 2027.
