Hamilton Is Not Throwing Away Its Shot… on the Big Screen!
Get ready to be in “the room where it happens”—this time on the big screen.
Walt Disney Studios has officially announced that the filmed version of the original Broadway production of Hamilton will be released in theaters on September 5, 2025, marking a major theatrical event and commemorating the 10th anniversary of the show’s filming at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.
This cinematic release will not only bring Lin-Manuel Miranda’s award-winning phenomenon back into the spotlight, but it will also offer fans something brand-new. The film will include a special exclusive prologue, titled “Reuniting the Revolution,” featuring fresh interviews with the original cast and creators as they reflect on the cultural legacy of Hamilton—ten years after capturing it on film.
A Revolutionary Return to the Big Screen
First released on Disney+ in July 2020, the filmed stage production of Hamilton brought Broadway to audiences around the world during the pandemic. Now, with a theatrical release planned for the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico on September 5, followed by the U.K. and Ireland on September 26, and Australia and New Zealand on November 13, this expanded cinematic edition promises to deepen the emotional impact of the live performance with all the power of a big-screen experience.
“When we filmed Hamilton, we wanted to try to capture the feeling of being in the Richard Rodgers Theatre during that first year on Broadway,” said director and producer Thomas Kail. “And we’re thrilled that audiences will now have the opportunity to experience it on the big screen.”
The Story That Changed the Stage
With its genre-defying score blending hip-hop, jazz, R&B, and Broadway, Hamilton reimagined the life of American founding father Alexander Hamilton and ignited a cultural movement. The show’s influence has stretched across politics, education, and pop culture, earning 11 Tony Awards®, a GRAMMY®, an Olivier Award, and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
The film stars the entire original Broadway cast, including Lin-Manuel Miranda as Hamilton, Leslie Odom, Jr. as Aaron Burr, Daveed Diggs, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Phillipa Soo, and Jonathan Groff, among others. Directed by Kail and produced by RadicalMedia, the production remains one of the most acclaimed stage-to-screen adaptations of all time.
