Guest Shares Horror Story of Overpriced Jewelry Crumbling After Disney Cruise Purchase
A Disney cruise is often a magical experience, offering everything from world-class entertainment to luxury shopping opportunities. However, for one guest aboard the Disney Wish, a pricey jewelry purchase quickly turned from enchanting to upsetting.
After spending over $2,000 on a Minnie Mouse necklace from Diamonds International, the guest shared a shocking story about the necklace falling apart, sparking outrage among other guests and online communities.

The guest, loveholic012, took to Reddit to explain their disappointment, detailing how the once-beautiful necklace, which was marketed as containing onyx, started to peel after just a few months of regular wear.
According to the Reddit post, the Minnie Mouse ears on the necklace were once glossy and shiny, but over time, the black coating began to deteriorate, revealing what appeared to be a cheap paste underneath.
Loveholic012 shared the following details on Reddit:
“I purchased this necklace on the Disney Wish two years ago and wore it on and off until I started wearing it more often. Recently, I noticed the black coating from the Minnie ears was coming off. I was told the black was onyx, but now it looks like paste. It was shiny before, but now it’s matte. I’m guessing the coating came off.”

This post quickly went viral within the Disney cruise community. Other users were quick to share their sympathies and frustrations.
Many felt the necklace was misrepresented by Diamonds International, the vendor that sold the jewelry onboard Disney cruises. The situation raised questions about the quality of jewelry offered to guests and sparked outrage over what many perceived as a scam.
Diamonds International Under Scrutiny
The situation has led to widespread criticism of Diamonds International, which is a major jewelry retailer aboard Disney cruises.

Commenters on Reddit shared similar experiences, warning others to be cautious when buying jewelry while on Disney ships. One user remarked, “Diamonds International is a scam, and Disney should be aware of it. This shouldn’t happen on a Disney ship.”
Several other users shared negative experiences with Diamonds International, citing issues like broken jewelry, tarnishing, and the inability to return products without a receipt.
One commenter wrote about their own experience with Pandora rings, purchased on the Disney Wish, which broke within a week.
I purchased two Pandora rings on the Wish and both broke within a week of getting off the ship. I couldn’t return them to a regular Pandora store because I didn’t have a Pandora receipt. It took months of back and forth with customer service where they had me send them the rings and I got a gift card for what I paid for them onboard. So even Pandora isn’t a safe bet.
These negative experiences have led to growing concern about the integrity of products sold by Diamonds International. Guests had expected to purchase high-quality, authentic jewelry, but these stories paint a very different picture.
The Problem with Disney’s Third-Party Retailers
The incident raises a deeper issue about the third-party retailers Disney partners with for onboard shopping. While Disney is known for its magical experiences and attention to detail, its relationship with Diamonds International and other third-party vendors seems to be under scrutiny.
With so many complaints about product quality and customer service, it’s clear that Disney might need to reevaluate its partnerships to ensure that customers are getting what they pay for.
A frequent commenter on the Reddit thread expressed frustration with Disney’s lack of responsibility, saying, “Disney needs to step up and address this. They allow these vendors to operate under their name, and guests expect Disney-quality products, not cheap knockoffs.”
While Disney may not directly manage the vendors on their ships, their endorsement of these stores plays a significant role in customer trust. When problems arise, guests naturally look to Disney for resolution.
Without any official comment from Disney about the incident or the vendor’s poor reputation, it’s unclear if the company will take responsibility for the situation.
What Should Guests Know Before Buying Jewelry on a Disney Cruise?
If you’re considering purchasing jewelry during your Disney cruise, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, always research the brands and vendors onboard. Look for reviews or complaints from other guests before making any significant purchases.
Second, ensure you receive a detailed receipt for any high-value items you buy. This documentation will be crucial if there’s an issue with the product later on.
Third, be cautious about what’s being promised. While Disney may advertise luxury shopping experiences, some onboard vendors may not be living up to the brand’s reputation.

If something seems too good to be true, it’s worth questioning the quality and value of the product.
Is Disney Responsible for This Situation?
While Disney may not have direct control over the jewelry sold by Diamonds International, the association between the cruise line and the retailer still leaves Disney responsible in the eyes of many guests. Customers expect a certain level of quality and integrity when shopping in Disney’s stores or onboard their ships.
With the growing dissatisfaction among cruise-goers, it may be time for Disney to reassess its partnerships with third-party vendors like Diamonds International.

I will never set foot in a Diamonds International again after watching their slimy, predatory behavior in getting my friend to spend way more than she intended on our cruise. The “gift with purchase” looks like it came out of a vending machine. People trust them because Disney does. They put on big shopping seminars onboard and have stores waiting for you on land. Disney needs to cancel this partnership. They are deplorable.
