A Walt Disney World Resort guest recently shared her experience accidentally “breaking” EPCOT’s Spaceship Earth attraction.
The iconic geodesic Spaceship Earth opened alongside EPCOT on October 1, 1982. The current version of the omnimover attraction takes guests from the dawn of human civilization through hundreds of years of technological innovation that led humanity to where it is today. At the end, Disney Park guests get to interact with the attraction and build their own dreams for a better world in the future.
Like any Disney Park attraction that’s consistently operated for decades, Spaceship Earth occasionally experiences technical issues that force it to shut down. However, sometimes rides like Spaceship Earth actually close because of guest behavior.
This week, TikTok user Stevie Wilde (@wildeabouttravel_) shared her experience “breaking” Spaceship Earth during her family’s visit to EPCOT many years ago. When the incident occurred, the TikToker was in one of the two-person seats with her cousin near the end of the attraction, when the ride vehicles start moving backward.

“My cousin was lying back because you kind of have to; it tilts you back,” the Disney Park guest explained. “Her sunglasses were up on her [head] like this, and I knocked them off.”
Unfortunately, neither guest could grab the sunglasses in time.
“They fell into the track and the ride broke down,” the TikToker said.
To make matters worse, this was the TikToker’s first time on a Disney Park ride without parental supervision.
“This was my first time going on a ride in a car separate from my parents, so they kinda freaked out,” she recalled.
This kind of thing happens all the time, especially on trackless rides like Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure at EPCOT and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Make sure to secure all personal belongings when boarding any Disney Park attraction…even the ones you think move slowly!
Have you ever gotten stuck on a ride at Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, or Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park? Disney Dining would love to hear about your experience in the comments!

MOST MAGICAL PLACE ON EARTH
I call bs. She’s a grown adult and remembers something that happened when she was 3-4-5 ish? And was in an attraction car at that age without an adult? Another tik-tok “influencer” looking for clicks.
