Disneyland Shuts Down 24-Year-Old Water Ride
Grizzly River Run, the 24-year-old river rapids ride at Disney California Adventure Park, was temporarily shut down last week, leaving guests stranded in their rafts. The unexpected malfunction resulted in an evacuation, and one of the Disney Park guests involved shared their experience on social media.
Grizzly River Run opened on February 8, 2001, alongside Disney California Adventure Park. Featuring winding rapids, thrilling drops, and soaking wet fun, the Grizzly Peak ride quickly became one of the park’s must-do summer experiences. However, like many high-capacity Disney Park rides, it is not immune to occasional technical issues.
On Thursday, Reddit user u/depletedtank shared their experience getting stuck on Grizzly River Run due to a “mechanical fault.”
Grizzly River Run Evac.
Disney cast members onsite informed trapped guests that it would take about 20 minutes to drain the water from the attraction before they could begin the evacuation process.
“Cast say it takes about 20 mins to drain and then you have to unload from the rafts,” the Reddit user explained. “Pretty painless and cast were very courteous about the whole situation!”
While the guests were ultimately evacuated safely, the Redditor mentioned that Grizzly River Run seemed to experience additional shutdowns that day, adding, “I’d say from looking at the wait times and seeing it closed that this has happened a couple of times today, seems like a bit of a rough day.”
It’s unclear whether those closures involved further evacuations, but the Disney California Adventure Park ride was reported to be operating normally shortly after the incident.
Disneyland Resort has not made a public statement about the technical issue, which isn’t unusual for temporary closures like this one. Grizzly River Run was up and running at the time of this article’s publication.
