Getting Your Donald Duck Fix at Walt Disney World

We all have our favorite characters, sometimes multiple favorite characters.  And usually out of the “Fab 5” you identify with one more than another.  For my oldest son that was Donald Duck (which is really funny because he is the most even tempered of my 3 children).  When we went to Walt Disney World when he was younger we had to do & find everything Donald.  So here are 8 ways that I suggest for getting your Donald Duck fix at Walt Disney World:

8. Find Some Merchandise

Donald is a pretty popular Duck and his unique personality makes him an easy target for catchy t-shirts and other merchandise.  When you arrive for your vacation hit World of Disney at Disney Springs to check out the assortment of Donald Duck merchandise so you can be properly outfitted for your vacation.  I feel certain you will find a t-shirt or two featuring Donald, and maybe even a hat.  Then you can start looking for your souvenirs—Donald Coffee Mugs, maybe a Donald Tie, Donald Trading Pins . . . I’m pretty sure all manner of Donald Duck merchandise is available at the largest Disney Store in the world.

7. Donald Duck Chocolate

While you are at Disney Springs swing by the Ganachery to treat yourself to a chocolatey surprise.  The specialty chocolate store has developed chocolate bars inspired by many of your favorite characters, including Donald.  The Donald Duck bar has a unique flavor combination, but it is so Donald.  White Chocolate is flavored with blueberries (white & blue for Donald) and habanero chili (for his temper).  As the label reads, “This chocolate is white, blue, and a little fiery.  Just like our favorite hot-headed duck.”  A must eat treat for any true Donald fan.

6. Festival of Fantasy Parade

The Magic Kingdom’s 3:00 (usually) parade features all of our favorite Disney characters surrounded by colorfully costumed parade performers and accompanied by a great soundtrack.  Toward the end of the parade are the units featuring Dumbo and Fantasia. . . here is where you will find your friend Donald Duck and his main squeeze Daisy along for the ride.  Be sure to wave!

5. Tusker House

While Donald appears at several character dining experiences at Walt Disney World, Tusker House in Animal Kingdom is where he is featured as the “lead” character.  For breakfast, lunch or dinner you can dine with Safari Donald and some of his adventurous friends.  This is one of my favorite character meals for many reasons (a big one is the variety & quality of the food).  Seeing Donald in his safari gear is fun and different, and this is a great way to meet your favorite duck and enjoy a great meal!

4. The Astounding Donaldo

Another great place to meet Donald Duck is over at Pete’s Silly Sideshow in the Storybook Circus area of Magic Kingdom.  Here Donald shares a line with Goofy so you get to meet each character as circus stars.  Many times you can find the Goofy & Donald line without much of a wait, so it is a nice setting to meet Donald and see him in yet another outfit.  You may even find the Astounding Donaldo a little hypnotic as he practices his powers.

3. Philharmagic

Donald is the star of one of my favorite attractions, Philharmagic.  This 4D show in Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom features songs from some of the beloved Disney Animated Films all woven together with 3D imagery and 4D effects.  Donald, as usual, gets himself into a little trouble by borrowing Mickey’s hat and conductor’s baton and has to travel through many worlds from Disney’s films to recover the missing items and return them to the orchestra in time for Maestro Mickey Mouse to conduct.  Things don’t go as planned and in the end Donald ends up in a bit of a pickle.  Be sure to look at the back of the theater at the very end of the show.  And as you exit, in true Disney fashion, there is a gift shop on your right that has several references to Donald and Philharmagic (along with more merchandise).

2. Donald’s Dino-Bash!

Donald Duck is celebrating with a Dino-Bash in DinoLand USA. Apparently Donald got caught up in the Ancestry.com craze and tested his DNA to discover his ancestors were dinosaurs—they do warn you that the results may be unexpected before you take the test.  To celebrate he is throwing a party in DinoLand with colorful new decorations and some of his friends joining him including Daisy, Launchpad McQuack and Scrooge McDuck, along with Pluto, Goofy, and Chip & Dale dressed as Dinosaurs.  I can’t wait to go party with Donald and his friends.  Oh, and just kidding about the ancestry.com DNA thing.

1. Mexico

The Mexico Pavilion at Epcot is all about Donald . . . and Mexican culture.  As one of the three stars of the Three Caballeros you’ll find Donald in full force in Mexico.  Outside you can meet Donald dressed in traditional Mexican attire with a serape.  Inside you have to take a spin on the Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros.  Through this slow moving boat ride you will search all over Mexico with Panchito and Jose Carioca to find Donald in time for their concert.  There are lots of cute Donald sightings throughout the ride and at the end you will see him perform in Audio Animatronic form with Jose and Panchito.  And if you still need more Donald Duck merchandise be sure to take a look around the outdoor market set up inside the pyramid.  There are a lot of Three Caballeros items along with a few things just featuring Donald Duck.
