Gas Leak Clears Disneyland Paris Hub, Disney Makes Final Decision
Quick update for anyone following Disneyland Paris: Central Plaza is open again. But before that, on Tuesday, October 20, the hub of Disneyland Park was reportedly evacuated after a strong smell of gas, and firefighters were on the scene. Here’s everything we know, and everything we don’t.

A heads up on how we’re handling it. Every claim is tied to its source, guest posts are labeled as guest posts, and anything unconfirmed is called unconfirmed. Let’s get into it.
You’ll notice the word “reported” a lot. That’s deliberate. The leak itself hasn’t been confirmed by an official statement in the information we have, so we’re describing what was reported and by whom, and nothing beyond that.

Frontierland, Adventureland, Fantasyland, and Discoveryland stayed open, the post said. DLP Works posted at noon local time, and Central Plaza has since reopened.
What Initial Coverage Added
Initial reports said guests were evacuated from part of the resort following reports of a gas leak near Sleeping Beauty Castle. Central Plaza, described as the hub at the end of Main Street, U.S.A. connecting several areas of the park, was reportedly closed, and guests were told to leave the area while emergency crews responded.
Reports on X said firefighters arrived after a strong smell of gas was detected, and Disney’s Guest Flow teams were reportedly redirecting visitors.
Reddit Reports
Guests on Reddit described more disruptions, including a canceled parade and restricted access to certain pathways. One visitor claimed to have been evacuated from the parade route, and another said they saw a fire hose near the castle.
Reality check: these are anonymous accounts. We can’t verify them, and we’re passing them along as what guests said.
By the Clock
Here are the times we have. DLP Works posted at noon local time. Later reports put the restoration of access at 3 p.m. local time on Tuesday.
That’s all the timing the information gives. It doesn’t say when the evacuation began or how many guests were affected, so we aren’t guessing at either one.
The Plot Twist: One Path Stayed Closed
The reopening came with a catch. Central Plaza was restored to guests as of 3 p.m. local time on Tuesday, but one pathway stayed closed while crews kept responding to the reported leak.
According to the latest reports, the leak was traced to a spot beneath a manhole cover between the Castle Stage and Central Plaza. It wasn’t clear when the last restrictions would be lifted.
What We Still Don’t Know
- The cause: Not publicly confirmed in the initial coverage.
- The exact location: The manhole detail comes from “the latest reports,” not an official announcement.
- The timeline: It’s unclear how long the pathway restriction lasted.
- Entertainment: It’s unclear whether other shows on Tuesday were affected.
- An official statement: Disneyland Paris hadn’t issued one confirming the reported gas leak at the time of the initial coverage, and the information we have doesn’t include one now.
Why It’s a Big Spot
Central Plaza is described as the hub at the end of Main Street, U.S.A. that connects several areas of the park. That’s why a closure there can shake up how people move around. The four lands were reportedly open, but guests described restricted pathways. In plain terms, the sources describe a park that kept operating while some routes between its areas were restricted or redirected.
Flashback: Gas Incidents at Disney Parks
The coverage points to earlier incidents. They’re background only, and the information we have doesn’t connect any of them to Tuesday’s report.
- February 2007: Hundreds of visitors were evacuated from Frontierland on two consecutive days after a leak was detected near Phantom Manor and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Le Parisien reported that engineers traced the problem to an underground section of the gas network, with repairs scheduled after the park closed.
- April 2021: City hazardous materials records recorded a natural gas release at the Disneyland Resort’s Anaheim address. Gas escaped from a vent header outlet for about 15 minutes. No evacuations or injuries were recorded, and the cause was initially unknown.
- October 2024: Guests were evacuated from Pixar Pier and parts of Paradise Gardens Park at Disney California Adventure shortly before closing. Some guests speculated about a gas leak, but Disneyland never publicly confirmed the cause, and the park resumed normal operations.
If You Hit a Closure on Your Trip
Parts of a park can close without warning, as the reports from Tuesday show. If it happens to you, follow Cast Member directions, expect redirected foot traffic, and stay flexible. If you have a reservation or a show you’re counting on, keep an eye on official updates while you’re in the park. Check official channels for updates, since details can change quickly.
That’s general advice, not a description of Disneyland Paris’s procedures, which we don’t have information about.
