Even After Losing $100+ Million, Gal Gadot Still Begs Bob Iger to Make Another ‘Snow White’ Film

Gal Gadot Advocates for Evil Queen Prequel

Gal Gadot has expressed a strong desire to reprise her role as the Evil Queen in a potential prequel to Disney’s live-action adaptation of Snow White.

At the Women’s Guild Cedars-Sinai Snow Ball Gala, Gadot eagerly stated, “I would love to do that. Tell (Disney CEO) Bob (Iger). Bob, I’ll do that.” She drew a comparison to Angelina Jolie’s successful portrayal of Maleficent, suggesting audiences may resonate with similar prequel narratives. This showcases a savvy recognition of the trend in Hollywood where reimagining classic tales can cultivate renewed interest and engagement from fans.

Gadot’s enthusiasm for the project could tap into a nostalgic audience longing for compelling storytelling. The initial reception of the Snow White film was not favorable. Still, the allure of a prequel focusing on the Evil Queen may spark curiosity in viewers regarding her backstory and motivation, potentially contributing to its success.

The Aftermath of Snow White’s Box Office Loss

Despite Gadot’s aspirations, the reality surrounding Snow White is less favorable. The film reportedly lost upwards of $100 million, leaving Disney in a precarious financial position. Critical reviews highlighted a disconnect between the studio and both audiences and critics, marking the venture as a significant misstep for the studio. Public sentiment leaned heavily negative, making it difficult for the cast to distance themselves from the film’s failures.

Rachel Zegler, another star of the film, attempted to downplay her performance by stating that Snow White had become “celebrated” due to its streaming success. However, this sentiment contrasts sharply with its theatrical performance, which fell short of expectations. The disparity in perspectives among the cast indicates a level of discomfort regarding the film’s overall reception.

Behind-the-Scenes Tensions Between Stars

Tension reportedly brewed between Gadot and Zegler during filming. Sources indicated that their differing political views may have contributed to their difficulties in working together. Zegler actively voiced support for Gaza, while Gadot, as an Israeli, took a contrasting stance. This divergence in beliefs led to several conflicts, resulting in Disney taking steps to limit their interactions during promotional activities.

This behind-the-scenes drama became intertwined with the film’s narrative, amplifying the challenges Disney faced in marketing Snow White. Their efforts to manage the situation included scaling down the film’s red-carpet events, showcasing the studio’s concern about the potential fallout from the public and media.

Disney’s Response and Future Prospects

Bob Iger’s position on reviving the Snow White franchise remains uncertain. Given the financial losses associated with the recent film, the prospect of investing in a sequel or prequel might seem risky to Disney’s leadership. Iger has a history of strategic decision-making, and this time could lead him to choose caution over renewed engagement with the storyline.

Despite the challenges the franchise encountered, there remains a sliver of hope among fans for the future. Many are curious to hear more about Gadot’s proposals and the possibilities of further exploration of the beloved characters in the Snow White universe. On social media and other platforms, discussions about a fresh take on the Evil Queen’s story have surfaced, indicating an openness among the audience to revisit the classic tale in a new light.

While Gal Gadot eagerly continues to advocate for her return as the Evil Queen, it remains to be seen how the tangled web of financial implications, critical reception, and interpersonal tensions will influence Disney’s decision-making moving forward.

  1. No. It already was ruined. You didn’t have the depth of character in the Evil Queen that there was ink the original Snow White. She wasn’t good as the Evil Queen. To compare what Angela Jolie did with Maleficent (which was a retelling of the movie from a different point of view) to her, no. Here is an example, making the spells to change until the Hag and also making the Poisoned Apple, she shines over it, the original went deep in detail. With Maleficent, there was power in the storytelling and in the actual character. We invested time in loving her in the same way we invested timer in hating the Villains in older movies. What people really want is animations, a developed story with love put into the movie.
