Spider-Man’s cinematic journey began with Tobey Maguire in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy (2002 to 2007) — currently rumored to make a comeback. Following Maguire, Andrew Garfield took over the role in The Amazing Spider-Man series, with the first film debuting in 2012, followed by The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014.

But Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man/Tony Stark and Chris Evans’ Captain America/Steve Rogers stepping down and the dawn of the Multiverse Saga, Tom Holland’s Peter Parker isn’t the only iteration of the fan-favorite web-slinger.

Nicolas Cage Caught in Action as Spider-Man Noir

A new Spider-Noir live-action series is in development, bringing the gritty, alternate universe version of Spider-Man to the screen.

Produced by Amy Pascal, Christopher Miller and Phil Lord, Nicolas Cage is rumored to reprise his role as the voice of Spider-Man Noir, potentially taking on a live-action version of the character. This adaptation will mark a shift from the animated portrayal in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018), where Cage first voiced the brooding, trenchcoat-wearing hero.

Now, Just Jared has revealed several first images of Cage in character as Spider-Man Noir, from the set of Spider-Noir:

Set in a 1930s New York plagued by corruption, crime, and shadowy villains, Spider-Noir stands out from the more traditional, colorful Spider-Man storylines. The live-action series promises to delve deeper into the noir aesthetic, combining detective storytelling with supernatural superhero elements.

Developed by Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot for MGM+, this marks the first television series in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU) and is produced by Sony Pictures Television, Lord Miller, Pascal Pictures, and Amazon MGM Studios.

The series follows an older, hardened Spider-Man Noir, a private investigator and superhero in an alternate 1930s New York City, as he grapples with his past. Nicolas Cage stars as the title character, reprising his role after voicing Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018).

The series also features Lamorne Morris as journalist Robbie Robertson, Brendan Gleeson as a philosophical yet dangerous New York mob boss, and Li Jun Li as a nightclub singer. Abraham Popoola, Jack Huston, and Karen Rodriguez also round out the cast.

The show was first revealed in February 2023, with Lightfoot joining in December. Officially titled Noir in May 2024, it was later renamed Spider-Noir in July, with Cage’s casting confirmed.

Filming for Spider-Noir began in August 2024 in Los Angeles and is expected to wrap by February 2025. The eight-episode series is set to debut on MGM+. Additional cast members include Lukas Haas, Cameron Britton, Cary Christopher, and Amanda Schull in undisclosed recurring roles.

More on Spider-Man Noir

The Spider-Noir character, also known as Spider-Man Noir, hails from the Marvel Noir comic universe, where Peter Parker takes on the role of a masked vigilante during the Great Depression.

Unlike the familiar, lighthearted Spider-Man, this version is shaped by the grim realities of 1930s life, with his adventures often involving gangsters, mob bosses, and moral ambiguity. The upcoming live-action series is expected to offer a more grounded, atmospheric take on Parker’s journey, highlighting his fight against widespread corruption in a hopeless, crime-ridden New York.

Nicolas Cage’s potential return as Spider-Noir, following his popular voice portrayal in Into the Spider-Verse, adds significant excitement to the project. Known for his eccentric style and darker roles, Cage’s involvement would bring star power and a unique edge to the live-action adaptation.

Fans can anticipate a blend of his quirky charm and noir-inspired gravitas, making for a compelling and nuanced performance. While plot details remain limited, the Spider-Noir series is poised to explore the darker, detective-driven elements of the character’s world, offering a fresh, introspective look at one of Spider-Man’s most distinct iterations.
