Fan-Favorite ‘Stranger Things’ Actor Could Lead New TMNT Reboot

As Stranger Things finally comes to an end, it’s fair to say that Sadie Sink’s role as Max Mayfield, one of the show’s standout characters, has officially become a fan-favorite.

Introduced in Season 2 and gradually pushed to the emotional center of the story, Sink helped give the Netflix hit some of its most bruising and memorable moments.

For viewers, her work on the series as the troubled Hawkins teen proved she was more than capable of carrying material well beyond genre television.

But that reputation hasn’t been built on Stranger Things alone.

Sink’s background includes plenty of Broadway experience as a child, with the classic Annie being one of her most notable appearances.

On film, she took on a markedly different challenge opposite Brendan Fraser in Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale (2022). Later this year, however, she’ll be returning to the world of sci-fi fantasy in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, opposite Tom Holland. Her role remains undisclosed, but nevertheless, the film marks her first entry into the superhero genre.

Beyond the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it remains to be seen what the future holds for Sink. But one potential role could be April O’Neil in Paramount’s newly confirmed live-action/CG hybrid Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot, which is scheduled for release on November 17, 2028.

April serves as the human counterpoint to the Ninja Turtles themselves: intelligent, resilient, and able to hold her own. She has previously been portrayed in live action by Judith Hoag (the original 1990 film), Paige Turco (The Secret of the Ooze and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III), and Megan Fox (the two Michael Bay-produced reboots).

Not only has Sink already proven herself in the sci-fi fantasy and action arena, and is about to do so again in the upcoming Spider-Man film, but her distinctive red hair (which has naturally led many fans to believe she’s playing Mary Jane Watson in the film), long associated with April in animation and comics, only strengthens her case.

Paramount’s TMNT reboot is still in early development and no cast members have been announced. Neal H Moritz, who worked on the studio’s Sonic the Hedgehog films, is reportedly onboard as a producer.
