Family Vacation Interrupted by Terrifying Attempted Abduction at Popular Water Park

But recently, a visit to one popular water park in Williamsburg, Virginia, took a frightening turn when an attempted child abduction occurred, leaving the resort’s guests in shock and disbelief.

At the Great Wolf Lodge, one of the most renowned family resorts with an extensive indoor water park, a disturbing incident unfolded. Deputies with the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office reported that a family was vacationing at the lodge when a man attempted to abduct their seven-year-old son.

According to authorities, the suspect tried to lure the young boy away from the swimming pool. When the child made an attempt to leave his chair and rejoin his family, the man allegedly grabbed the boy’s arm, forcing him back into the chair.

Thankfully, the child, after struggling for a few moments, was able to escape and was quickly found and assisted by a staff member from the lodge. Thanks to the quick thinking of both the child and the resort’s employees, the situation didn’t escalate further.

In response to the incident, local authorities launched an investigation, reviewing the resort’s surveillance footage. The man was soon identified as 46-year-old Travis Andrew Bright, a guest from Greenville, North Carolina. He was subsequently arrested and charged with felony abduction of a minor and misdemeanor assault and battery.

Authorities have noted that, while Bright did not manage to remove the child from the pool area, his actions were still considered a serious attempt at abduction, which is why he faces such severe charges.

As of now, Bright remains in custody at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail. His bond has been denied, and his case is set to go to trial, with his next court appearance scheduled for August 28, 2025. If convicted of the felony charge, Bright could face up to 20 years in prison.

Local authorities also speculated that alcohol might have played a role in Bright’s behavior, though no breathalyzer test was administered at the time of his arrest. This raises even more questions about what could have led to such an alarming attempt at child abduction in a family-oriented setting.
