End of an Era: Disney Sets Closing Date for Iconic Animal Kingdom Attraction
For years, guests at Disney’s Animal Kingdom have been thrilled by the prehistoric wonder of DinoLand U.S.A. The beloved area, featuring attractions like the DINOSAUR ride and TriceraTop Spin, has been a family favorite since the park’s opening. But as with all things Disney, change is coming.
While some park-goers have welcomed new updates and expansions, others are feeling nostalgic about the past.

As part of the ongoing transformation of Animal Kingdom, Disney has confirmed that The Boneyard—a popular play area for younger visitors—will close permanently in the coming months. The announcement, which has stirred mixed emotions among fans, has left many wondering about the future of the park’s dinosaur-themed attractions.
According to Disney, the final day for The Boneyard will be September 1, 2025.

So, what’s taking its place? Disney is preparing for the second phase of its Tropical Americas expansion, which will feature exciting new lands inspired by the Indiana Jones franchise and the Disney film Encanto (2021). While it’s clear that changes are on the horizon, not everyone is on board with the shift. Fans are particularly vocal about the loss of iconic areas like DINOSAUR and The Boneyard—both of which have long been favorites for families.
Fans of the DINOSAUR attraction can take comfort in knowing that it will remain open through 2026 before being rethemed into an Indiana Jones adventure. Despite some disappointment, Disney is reassuring fans that the new Tropical Americas area will include family-friendly attractions, with a new play area designed for kids and an Encanto-themed ride.

As the days count down to the closure, many are sharing their thoughts on social media. Some are sad to see DinoLand U.S.A. go, while others are eager to see the new areas take shape.
