Elio Brings Back a Pixar Tradition We Haven’t Seen Since Monsters, Inc.

Pixar is bringing back the laughs with its upcoming movie Elio! In a fun throwback to its early days, Pixar released a bloopers and gag reel featuring characters from the movie. It’s the first time in 24 years the studio has done this. Fans couldn’t be happier. This playful tradition began in the late ’90s. It has been sorely missed ever since.

Pixar’s Hilarious History with Bloopers

Animated bloopers kicked off in 1998 with A Bug’s Life. Fans loved seeing the characters “mess up” scenes. It felt like real actors working on a set. The genius idea made the characters feel even more relatable.

Toy Story 2 in 1999 kept the fun going. It included gems like a cameo from Flik and Heimlich from A Bug’s Life, and the other toys pranking Buzz Lightyear by painting his wings and helmet. In 2001, Monsters, Inc. took it up a notch. The full-on musical number stole the show! Mike and Sulley performed “Put That Thing Back Where It Came From or So Help Me.” It became an absolute classic.

Although Pixar stopped making bloopers for a while, they still found ways to keep the playful spirit alive. The end credits of Cars (2006) offer a perfect example. They featured “Cars” versions of other Pixar movies. These nods served as fun winks to fans. They reminded everyone of the studio’s creative energy.

Bringing the Fun Back

Now, with Elio, Pixar has revived the blooper tradition. It feels like a warm hug of nostalgia. The promo video brims with funny moments. It shows Elio and quirky aliens messing up lines, cracking jokes, and having a blast. It’s a fresh way to highlight the film’s humor. It gives fans a little trip down memory lane.

What’s Elio About?

Hitting theaters on June 20, 2025, Elio tells the story of an 11-year-old boy. He accidentally gets mistaken for Earth’s ambassador by a group of aliens. Talk about pressure! Adrian Molina directs the movie. He co-directed Coco (2017). The movie promises plenty of heart, laughs, and Pixar magic.

With the return of bloopers and a totally unique story, Elio looks like it’s shaping up to be something special. Whether you’ve been a fan since the A Bug’s Life days or you’re just discovering Pixar, this movie has something for everyone.
