Like many of us, actor and retired professional wrestler Dwayne Johnson is preparing for Christmas. In a recent interview with People, Johnson reminds us to slow down this holiday season and focus on family and being together.
Stability is Key
Johnson could spend his holiday season anywhere in the world, but he focuses on stability for his girls during the holidays. Johnson is an actual girl dad to Simone, 22, Jasmine, 8, and Tiana, 5.
When looking at the importance of the holiday season for his family, Johnson wants to ensure his girls’ stability. Because of this, his family spends Christmas at home.
Stability in the Johnson household means having a few family traditions. Johnson explained how Christmas Eve works for the girls.
“So on Christmas Eve, the little ones do their best to stay up as long as they can, so usually around 11:00 or 11:30.” He continued, “They finally fall asleep, and then Santa comes. And then when Santa comes, that’s a whole couple-of-hour process. So that’s our tradition now: to wake up and live Christmas and the holidays through the girls.”
It isn’t about how many gifts they receive or what exotic location they can visit; instead, it is all about stability and security for Johnson and his family during the holiday season.
Johnson’s History
During the same interview, Johnson explained where this focus on stability comes from. Christmas was different every year for his family growing up since they moved around a lot.
“Sometimes it was a small tree, like a small tree, and then sometimes a little bigger tree. And I’m an only child, so it was a small family, a small group,” he continued. “So our tradition was just to be together on Christmas.”
Now that Johnson has his own family and can create stability for them, he makes that the focus of the holiday season.
As we prepare for the holidays, Dwayne Johnson’s story is an excellent reminder of what is truly important this holiday season.
