Drinking Around Epcot’s World Showcase 101

Drinking around Epcot’s World Showcase, better known as Drinking Around the World, is a popular activity for adults at Walt Disney World. However, it’s an activity that should not be taken lightly. The goal is to have a drink in each pavilion around World Showcase. If accomplished, that’s eleven alcoholic drinks. That’s a lot of drinks, and not for the faint of heart! If you want to Drink Around the World on your next Walt Disney World vacation, here’s a primer with some essential tips.

6. Go With Friends

Friends make just about everything better, and Drinking Around the World is no exception. Going with a group allows you to try more new things. Plus, sharing with friends and family makes new drinks less intimidating. Order several drinks for your group to share. That way, everyone gets to try something new, but you’re not committing to drinking a whole glass of something. For example, if you’ve never had sake before, try a flight of sake. Everyone can take a little taste, and go back to order their own glass of the kind they liked the best. You could do the same with varieties of beer or wine that are new to you as well!

5. Pace Yourself

It’s very important to pace yourself if you’re trying to Drink Around the World. Eat a substantial breakfast before you start. Make sure you snack while you drink, and get another full meal in there. And of course, drink plenty of water. Staying properly hydrated is even more vital when you mix Florida sun with alcohol. Try matching a glass of water to each alcoholic drink. Also, plan to spend most of the day Drinking Around the World. It’s not something that can (responsibly) be done in a couple hours. World Showcase typically opens at 11:00am, so you should plan to start then to give yourself as much time as possible.

4. Know Your Limits

With so many choices, it can be very tempting to order more than you normally would. Sure, go ahead and try something new, but don’t overdo it. If you need to take a break, or stop, do it. You don’t want to get too drunk and do something stupid (like climb up the Mexico pavilion pyramid) and wind up banned from the park entirely. Drink responsibly, and remember that you’re in a family environment. This is another place where touring with friends and family comes in handy; they can help you stay within your limits. Guests should always remember that they are still in Walt Disney World, and that children are always present.

3. Document Your Experience

The options for documenting your time are about as endless as the drink selections. You’ve probably seen groups with customized T-shirts or lanyards where they can write-in the drink they have in each country. If you visit during Epcot’s International Food and Wine Festival, or Flower and Garden Festival, you can check off your drinks in the festival-specific booklets. At the very least take plenty of pictures of your Drinking Around the World experience. And don’t just take pictures of your drinks and food, but pictures of your friends and family having fun together.

2. Budget Properly

Drinking Around the World can get pricey fast. Consider putting money on a Disney gift card and using it just for that purpose. Take a look at menus online before you leave home to get an idea of the drink choices and the prices. Then plan your budget accordingly. Don’t forget to consider the food you will eat while you drink when making your budget. Also, you may want to take into account any impulse shopping that might happen when your inhibitions are down.

1. Be Spontaneous and Connect

With all those tips on budgeting, and photographing, and pacing yourself in mind, Drinking Around the World is a fantastic opportunity to just relax. It’s not a hectic day of Fastpasses and rope drops and dining reservations. Just stroll around World Showcase at a leisurely pace. Walk through stores. Stop and watch the performers. Sit on a bench and people watch while you sip a drink. Spend time to connect with your family and friends face to face, rather than via a screen. Savor this time with your loved ones, because the best memories are made around a table!
