Dollywood, the iconic Pigeon Forge theme park, is adjusting its operations today.
The holiday season is one of the busiest times of the year for theme parks, drawing crowds eager to experience festive decorations, seasonal attractions, and special events.
Dollywood is no exception. Known for its blend of thrilling attractions, Appalachian culture, and celebration of the unmistakable charm of Dolly Parton, the park remains a beloved destination for families and thrill-seekers alike over the holidays as it celebrates its Smoky Mountain Christmas celebrations.
Consisting of “twinkling with over six million twinkling lights, dozens of towering Christmas trees, and more,” the festival gives guests the chance to enjoy “festive flavors, heartwarming holiday shows, and seasonal shopping, all nestled right in the heart of the Smokies.”
Beyond the festive additions, the park boasts standout rides like the record-breaking Lightning Rod and the Wild Eagle, America’s first wing coaster, plus more relaxing attractions, such as the Dollywood Express steam train and Wildwood Grove’s kid-friendly rides.
Whether guests are there for the rides or Smoky Mountain Christmas, this week has been a busy one for Dollywood. The festive period has drawn hectic crowds, prompting Dollywood to implement operational changes today.
Earlier today, Dollywood notified guests that they should seek alternative parking locations due to high attendance, sharing the following statement on its X, formerly known as Twitter, account:
Dollywood is experiencing high demand for parking today (Monday, December 30). At this time, we encourage guests to park at alternate locations, including Pigeon Forge’s Patriot Park, and ride city transportation to Dollywood. As guests leave Dollywood throughout the afternoon and evening, spots will open if you plan to visit later tonight.
Now, Dollywood has also extended its hours tonight, remaining open until 10 p.m. instead of its planned 9 p.m. closure, giving visitors more time to enjoy the festivities.

This busy holiday season caps a challenging year for Dollywood. In July, the park faced closures due to flash flooding and a water mains leak, while Hurricane Helene caused disruptions in September. Earlier this month, freezing cold Arctic temperatures forced yet another early closure. Despite these setbacks, Dollywood continues to deliver a magical experience, ensuring guests leave with cherished memories.
Have you made a holiday trip to Dollywood this year?
