First Trailer for ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’: Has Gina Carano Returned?

The galaxy far, far away is finally heading back to the big screen, as Disney and Lucasfilm have released the first official trailer for The Mandalorian & Grogu, the upcoming Star Wars film arriving in theaters May 22, 2026.

The movie brings Pedro Pascal back as Din Djarin alongside Grogu, the Force user who became a cultural phenomenon under the name “Baby Yoda.”

While the franchise has delivered multiple big-screen entries since Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm in 2012, this project marks a first for the franchise: no other Star Wars TV series has been adapted into a feature-length theatrical release before, until now.

The film also appears to be taking the place of a fourth season of the hit Disney+ series. Directed by Jon Favreau and produced by Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, and Dave Filoni, the story follows Din and Grogu on a sweeping new mission for the New Republic.

Per StarWars.com: “The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu (as himself).”

The trailer teases a cosmic adventure that includes Anzellan mechanics, towering Imperial AT-ATs, a pair of Hutts, Sigourney Weaver in a new role, and the return of Star Wars Rebels favorite Zeb Orrelios. Weaver is joined by Jeremy Allen White and Jonny Coyne in the cast.

But one question lingers: will Gina Carano’s Cara Dune make an appearance in the film?

Carano was famously fired from The Mandalorian in 2021 after controversial social media posts, however, recently, she reached a settlement after filing a wrongful termination lawsuit. Though details of the settlement were not disclosed, speculation has already started about whether Carano could return as Cara Dune in some shape or form.

Whether or not she does remains to be seen, but it’s likely the film is keeping any surprise cameos close to its chest. It’s also worth noting that filming wrapped before Carano’s settlement with The Walt Disney Company — although it’s entirely possible for new scenes to be added in afterwards.

Meanwhile, fans can expect more Star Wars on the big screen, as another confirmed project, Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter starring Ryan Gosling, is slated for May 2027.

The Mandalorian & Grogu soars into theaters on May 22, 2026. Watch the trailer below:

The film stars Sigourney Weaver (Ghostbusters), Jeremy Allen White (The Bear), and Jonny Coyne (The Nun), and, of course, Pedro Pascal.
