Guest Drives Into Disney World Park in the Middle of the Night, Causes $100,000 in Damage

A late-night crash at Walt Disney World Resort left thousands of dollars in property damage and resulted in a driver’s arrest for driving under the influence. The incident took place around 2 a.m. Sunday, November 9, near Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

According to the police report released Monday, an officer conducting a “property check” at Disney’s Hollywood Studios parking area witnessed a “single vehicle crash.” The vehicle, a white BMW M8 worth up to $138,000, had driven through a curbed barrier before colliding with a tree and becoming disabled.

When the officer approached, they used a pocket knife to cut open the driver’s side airbag and remove the man behind the wheel, identified as Michael James Curtis. He reportedly admitted to having “a few drinks” earlier at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn but requested a lawyer when questioned further. The responding officer noted that Curtis “had glassy and watery eyes” and that his breath carried a strong odor of alcohol.

News of the crash first circulated on X (formerly Twitter) through the account @WDWActiveCrime, which tracks emergency activity across Walt Disney World Resort property. The account initially listed the call as “low-priority,” but later posted an update confirming that the crash caused more than $100,000 in damage.

Curtis was not injured in the crash, but officers took him into custody for driving under the influence. After being transported to a nearby hospital, the Disney Park guest reportedly tried to delay a blood draw to test his blood alcohol level. Inside his car, officers discovered a bar receipt from earlier in the evening.

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether any additional Walt Disney World Resort property beyond the barrier was damaged. Charges are expected to be filed against Curtis in the coming days.
