Disney’s Getting Ready to Kill Off Another Ride – This Time at Animal Kingdom

Walt Disney World has been shifting into high gear lately. New lands. New systems. Big closures. And no park seems safe from the changes—not even Animal Kingdom.

If you’ve visited recently, you’ve probably noticed a lot happening behind the scenes. Walkways blocked off. Longtime attractions are going quiet. Big changes are coming, and one land has already started its transformation.

Farewell, DinoLand

DinoLand U.S.A. is going extinct. While it always had charm, the area has felt out of place compared to the rest of the park’s lush, immersive environments. Disney has heard the feedback and is making moves.

In its place? A brand-new land called Tropical Americas. This isn’t just a small upgrade—it’s a full-on replacement. The new area reflects the rich landscapes and cultures of Colombia, Brazil, and beyond. It’s a better fit for Animal Kingdom’s overall theme.

Encanto, Indy, and More

Confirmed plans include a major Encanto attraction and an Indiana Jones experience, giving the new land two high-profile anchors. But there’s more on the table. Word is that Disney is also planning a new eatery, food stalls inspired by Latin American flavors, and possibly even a wildlife-themed carousel.

And while the official opening isn’t expected until 2027, construction is already shifting the landscape.

Another Ride Might Be on the Way Out

DinoLand U.S.A. isn’t the only thing fading into Disney history. Fans and insiders alike are starting to look at another ride that may be nearing the end of its run.

It’s big. It’s wet. And it’s been quietly underperforming for years.

Yep—Kali River Rapids might be next.

Why the Buzz?

Kali was supposed to be Animal Kingdom’s signature water thrill when it first launched. You hop in a round raft, float through a jungle setting, and get a message about illegal logging before taking a soaking plunge.

The problem? The story doesn’t land, and the experience is short. And unless it’s summer, it’s not the ride most people are eager to wait for. When we look at its frequent closures and the massive amount of space it uses, it becomes easy to see why Disney might be eyeing it.

A group of excited people, including children and adults, are on a water ride reminiscent of the thrills found before the Kali River Rapids closure. They sit in a circular raft with safety bars, racing down rapids as water splashes around them, looking thrilled and joyful.

What’s Next for the Space?

Retheming the ride is always an option. With the arrival of Tropical Americas, Disney could use the river setup to explore a new narrative—like a trek down the Amazon or a mythical rainforest river guarded by ancient legends.

On the flip side, they could tear it down and go in a new direction. It’s a valuable chunk of real estate, and Animal Kingdom is overdue for another top-tier ride outside Pandora.

Ride It While You Can

Nothing’s official yet, but if history is any indication, these things tend to happen quietly—until suddenly they don’t. Kali River Rapids might still be standing today, but tomorrow? Who knows.

If you’re a fan of the ride, now’s the time to enjoy it. In a park full of changes, nothing feels safe for long.
